SUMMARY

The Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) Mentor is responsible for delivering training and advocacy support to students with disabilities participating in Pre-ETS programs. This role involves the instruction of curriculum through three primary delivery methods: in-class direct instruction, day camps, and the management of a Practical Assessment Exploration System (PAES) Lab. The Pre-ETS curriculum encompasses five key areas: job exploration and counseling, postsecondary education, workplace readiness, self-advocacy, and work-based learning. The Pre-ETS Mentor plays an important role in equipping enrolled students with the skills and tools necessary for independence and successful transition to life after high school.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Utilize appropriate methods for working with individuals with intellectual and or physical disabilities.
  2. Assist enrolled Pre-ETS participants with the development of skills in the areas of self-advocacy, career development, workplace readiness, awareness of postsecondary programs, and independent life skills.
  3. Plan and prepare curriculum and activities for direct instruction and scheduled camps.
  4. Provide career coaching and counseling to a diverse population.
  5. Deliver training sessions in essential areas including but not limited to:
  • Assessments
  • Career exploration
  • Career decision-making
  • Resume development
  • Interview strategies
  • Job search strategies
  1. Provide supervision and guidance in the PAES lab.
  2. Collect pertinent data on participation in Pre-ETS program.
  3. Develop and maintain relationships with community partners to enhance available curriculum and activities related to Pre-ETS instruction.
  4. Prepare all necessary documentation including but not limited to:
  • Department monthly reports
  • Incident reports
  • ID notes
  • Weekly training reports
  • Daily attendance
  1. Responsible for assuring compliance with all Federal, State, and Local regulations and company policies and procedures.
  2. Must be able to meet all requirements of OV vehicle polices and travel:
  • To worksite locations
  • Within the community
  1. Report suspected Abuse, Neglect, Exploitation, Isolation, and Abandonment (ANEIA) immediately as mandated by state law.
  2. May be assigned other duties as needed.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not directly supervise OV team members but does oversee the work and success of students in the program.

 

 
Position Requirements

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, team members, and supervisors (verbal and written).

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage time efficiently.
  • Confidence in making decisions, particularly in complex scenarios.

  • Ability to resolve multiple complex issues simultaneously while remaining calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to work independently, taking initiative and responsibility for tasks.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Required: Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Required: Two (2) years of verifiable work experience in special education or a related field.
  • Required: A valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.
  • Required: Ability to operate a 10-passenger van.
  • Preferred: Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Preferred: Bilingual, Spanish-speaking
  • Required: Current CPI certification within 30 days of employment
  • Required: Current CPR and First Aid Certification within 30 days of employment
