We are hiring a Manufacturing Engineer to join our Brookings, SD team! In this role, you will manage the overall project management for new product development and revisions with internal departments and outside suppliers to meet the project requirements and goals from concept through initial production runs and continuous improvement projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

CUSTOMER RELATIONS

  • Develops a strong working relationship and partnership with customers to understand and anticipate product development and design needs that may enhance their product line.
  • Coordinate the efforts of Customer Service, Tooling, Quality, Production, sales, Purchasing, outside suppliers and the customer resulting in the smooth and efficient introduction of new products and revisions to existing products.
  • Participates in customer task force meetings for assigned customers and as requested by the Plant Manager or corporate staff.
  • Provides support to sales and marketing on product presentation and customer support.
  • Serves as primary contact to the assigned customer(s).

GENERAL

  • Develops or approves the initial quality plan and inspection instructions on all new products and transfers the information to the Quality Department to ensure consistent and high level of quality that meets customer standards.
  • Assures customer service receives initial B.O.M. standard for molded parts and assemblies based on information from sales and the customer.
  • Maintains hard copy and computer files relating to new products.
  • Generates and distributes sample requests with objectives and clear direction.
  • Obtains initial specifications from customers concerning product quality issues and packaging.
  • Coordinates with QA and production to define internal quality specifications as needed.
  • Assists QA and production to resolve disputes on dispositioning of non-conforming product.
  • Develop and maintain a high level of knowledge of the injection molding process, materials, tooling, quality and secondary operations.
  • Must follow and enforce Falcon Plastics Quality System and be pro-active in continuously improving the quality system to the benefit of Falcon Plastics and its customers.

DESIGN/DEVELOPMENT/TEST

  • Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
  • Analyzes test data and reports to determine if designs meet functional and performance specifications.
  • Partners with other departments to develop continuous improvement products or systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems.
  • Modifies existing designs, improve production techniques, and develops test procedures. Directs and utilizes management staff and other resources to achieve optimal end result.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others as needed.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from 4 year college or university and 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Software Knowledge: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of design software: Solidworks; IQMS Manufacturing software; and be proficient with Email and Microsoft Office products.

Other Skills and Abilities: Applies effective ergonomics principles to assure the reduction of hazards within the design or overall production system.
