SUMMARY

Responsible for managing production related activities in a manner that provides a safe work environment with high part quality in sufficient quantities to meet internal and external customer requirements. Participates in developing and or revising production methods to incorporate Lean Manufacturing principles. Supervises all employees in the Mix Room, Molding, Sintering, Sizing, Secondary, and Tumbling Departments. Also provides supervision to the Machine Shop, Quality, Maintenance and Shipping. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Interprets company policies to employees and enforces safety regulations. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other business-related duties may be assigned.

Follows all ISO 14001/IATF16949 Procedures and Work Instructions in the performance of these duties.

  • Directs the activities of all assigned manufacturing personnel on their shift to effectively manage the daily operation of each department, cell or support area.
  • Defines and directs activities related to identifying and addressing manufacturing issues that may negatively impact safety, quality, or productivity.
  • Responsible for managing relevant daily reports and manufacturing performance to established targets and to address deficiencies as necessary.
  • Applies and or supports Lean Manufacturing techniques to improve safety, quality and productivity such as 5S, cellular design and operation, TPM, Standard Work definitions, efficient supply procurement, stocking strategies, pull systems, poke yoke and others as necessary.
  • Implements and assigns departmental goals, objectives, and procedures, based on business plan objectives.
  • Works closely with manufacturing personnel and others as necessary to resolve issues related to training and skill requirements, equipment assessments and repairs, dispatch shortfalls and any other issues that negatively impact manufacturing processes.
  • Makes assignments to investigate and resolve process disruptions as necessary and works with Human Resource personnel on employee related issues to assist in decision making and disciplinary actions.
  • Determines manufacturing staffing requirements by shift, area and job classification and performs or assigns interviewing, hiring and bid awarding responsibilities as necessary.
  • Completes or reviews all relevant performance and skill classifications, identifies training gaps, and inefficiencies, performance issues and makes assignments to correct as necessary.
  • Responsible for monitoring and correcting as necessary the manufacturing training plan activity and effectiveness.
 
Position Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

SKILLS NECESSARY

  • Maintaining time and attendance
  • Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Power Point
  • Plexus – Entering checks, reviewing control plans, finding documents, inspection result review, training matrix
  • Process knowledge – Molding, sintering, secondary, shipping.
  • Control plans – Knowledge of how to use them, find gaging and instruct operators.
  • Blue Print reading knowledge
  • Organizational skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Root Cause Analysis Techniques – Ability to properly use Basic 5 Why, 5x3 Why, and Fishbone Analysis.
     

QUALIFICATIONS

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as rates, percentages and sums. Ability to apply concepts of basic arithmetic and algebra.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must hold a valid Pennsylvania Driver's License.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate in the office area and loud in the manufacturing area. Appropriate PPE must be worn where required.
