The lab technician is responsible for testing and record-keeping of all dairy products at Minerva Dairy.  The position reports to and works closely with the Director of Quality Assurance to sample and test the products to ensure the highest level of quality.  The person appointed will be expected to maintain and improve the lab procedures by executing a predetermined plan.  Excellent communication and active listening skills are needed to be able to coordinate strategy with the rest of the management team.
 

Essential Job Functions

Microbiological Testing

Oversee process and sampling procedures

Preform in-house testing of Coliform, SPC, Yeast and Mold for Dairy products utilizing 3M Petri Film

Prepare and ship samples to outside labs

Perform sensory evaluations

Wastwater Sampling & Testing

Perform in-house testing

Prepare and ship samples to outside labs

Documentation

Perform data entry, sorting and reporting of cheese and butter laboratory results

Verify products are compliant with current specifications

Review daily documentation

Assist in Corrective Action/Preventive Action (CAPA) Initiatives

Maintain All Lab Equipment

Maintain calibration and recordkeeping for lab equipment

Train personnel in use of lab equipment where applicable

Required Skills

Proven ability to deliver results

In depth knowledge of Food Science and related fields

Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills

Ability to articulate effectively; both verbal and in writing

Highly personable, trustworthy

Proficient in operating a computer and associated applications (MS Office)

Possess the skill to develop and manage Excel Spreadsheets

Ability to motivate staff about the importance of quality and sanitation.

Ability to develop and explain detailed spreadsheets and present to staff

Strong communication skills

Recommended Experience and Education

 

Experience working in a food manufacturing environment

Experience working in a Lab environment

Successful track record of delivering results

Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on Biology/Chemistry

Obtain a Wastewater Class 3 License

Obtain a License as an SQF Practitioner

Obtain a WI Butter Grading License
