Distinguishing Characteristics:

Motor Vehicle Technician: Entry-level position in the motor vehicle job series. This position performs entry-level work, under direct supervision.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

Provide customer service to the general public; interact with outside organizations to obtain information; and perform clerical and administrative duties. The Technician is an entry level position and works under close supervision. The Specialist position is distinguished from the Technician by increased experience in records management, successful cross training in other Clerk & Recording areas, and ability to work independently.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Motor Vehicle Technician:

  • Greet all customers promptly. Assists customers at counter appropriately and provides the customer with accurate information and excellent customer service, answers basic motor vehicle and office questions; locate and provide documents and records. Fills out forms accurately.
  • Answers telephones promptly, provide accurate and detailed information.
  • Processes various documents, ensuring that all necessary forms are complete and accurate.
  • Uses computer and software applications to accurately enter data; search databases; conduct research; create documents; and send emails.
  • Receive and participate in training on motor vehicle policies, procedure, processes and application of Colorado statutes and legislation.
  • Process Colorado motor vehicle titles and registrations, registration documents, validation of tabs, issue placards and temporary license permits.
  • Training and understanding of Colorado fees in all motor vehicle transactions.
  • Functions as cashier executes proper cash handling procedures; receives and processes cash, checks and/or credit card payments, balances cash drawer at the end of the day.
  • Complete basic office housekeeping such as filing and organization of records.
  • Contacts outside organizations to obtain and provide information.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of all records.
  • Composes clear and grammatically correct written communication that is submitted to customers and financial institutions.
  • Performs research on legal documents using State resources.
  • May provide office support for Department Head/Official and Deputy.

Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

(Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities as determined by Garfield County may be substituted for the following requirements.)

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience: One year of administrative and customer service experience.

Licenses & Certifications: Valid driver’s license. Must obtain State certification within one year of hire.

REQUIRED PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Sitting: The primary task involves sitting at a desk, computer, or workstation for extended periods, performing administrative tasks and using computer equipment.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Occasional lifting and carrying of lightweight office supplies, documents, or small packages may be required, typically not exceeding 10 pounds.
  • Bending and Reaching: May involve occasional bending or reaching to access office equipment, files, or supplies within standard office settings.
  • Grasping and Typing: Ability to use a keyboard, mouse, and office equipment, demonstrating fine motor skills for typing, clicking, and manipulating documents.
  • Visual Acuity: Clear vision for reading printed and on-screen materials, including text, graphics, and data, and for viewing computer monitors for extended periods.
  • Hearing: Adequate hearing to engage in conversations, respond to telephone calls, and interact with colleagues in a typical office environment.
  • Walking/Mobility: Occasional short walks, or mobility, within the office premises may be necessary to attend meetings, access common areas, or collaborate with colleagues.
  • Stamina: Maintain the ability to maintain focus, productivity, and attention to detail while working at a desk for standard office hours.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment.

WORK HOURS:

  • Regular Full-Time position, 40 hours per week.
  • Hours are typically 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday.
  • There may be times when an employee may need to work outside the established work week, such as after hours or on the weekend.

REQUIRED TRAVEL:

This position is required to work out of the Glenwood Springs location and/or the Rifle location, and may be required to travel between both locations during the work day.

TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT:

Computer and relevant software applications, spreadsheets, calendars, and word processing. Will also work with calculators, telephone systems, and mobile phones.

NOTE: This position requires a pre-employment background check which will include a Criminal Background Check, Employment Verification, and Motor Vehicle Record Check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of these items.
