Supervisor, Custodial/Set-Up Services  

Description

Reporting to the Assistant Manager of Facilities, the Custodial/Set-Up Services Supervisor will oversee the work of the custodial team to clean and maintain the Academy Museum building to the highest standards, and oversee the preparation, set-up, staffing, and clean up for numerous events throughout the year.

You must be willing to work outside of normal business hours including weekends, late nights, and holidays. You must also be willing to work overtime, weekends, and have a flexible schedule, when required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, schedule, organize, coordinate, inspect, supervise, and evaluate the work of custodial and set-up services staff in the upkeep of the museum.
  • Work with the custodial and set-up services team as a working supervisor on day or evening shift.
  • Provide training to staff in the proper and efficient performance of custodial duties according to the training program implemented by the museum.
  • Maintain and issue custodial supplies.
  • Assist with supplies and parts procurement.
  • Inspect and evaluate the condition of the buildings, grounds, equipment, machinery, and sidewalks and make cleaning and maintenance recommendations for improvement to supervisor.
  • Undertake comprehensive and ongoing training for the custodial team.
  • Ensure that all work is performed in a safe manner in conformance with the museum’s safety programs.
  • Coordinate set up and break down of tables, chairs, and linens for various meetings, programs, events, and other activities.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and a positive and respectful attitude with peers, subordinates, supervisors, administrators, and visitors.
  • Train, supervise and evaluate personnel.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent certification of completion.
  • 2+ years of custodial experience as a lead/supervisor or 3 years of progressive leadership responsibility in the custodial trade.
  • CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) experience is a plus.
  • Building and safety codes; materials, tools, equipment, and methods used in the custodial trade, and in the repair and maintenance of buildings and related facilities.
  • Principles and practices of supervision and training.
  • Knowledge of Cal-OSHA and OSHA occupational safety regulations.
  • Modern cleaning methods, including basic methods of cleaning and preserving floors, whiteboards, carpets, furniture, walls, fixtures, locker rooms, and restrooms.
  • Safe work practices.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is highly preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in fluctuating temperatures.
  • Ability to work in adverse situations and conditions, e.g., dirty, noisy, etc.
  • Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and heights.
  • Ability to move and transport up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to kneel, bend, stoop, and squat for extended periods of time.

The starting salary for this role is $29.81 per hour. The actual base pay offered will be determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
