Description

GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION: 

This position is a fellowship to learn about and contribute to the domestic and international policy advocacy work of the UCC Office of Public Policy and Advocacy in Washington, DC. The position will engage in the coalition work of faith-based advocacy offices, assist with public policy analysis and advocacy, and support the UCC advocacy campaigns and the editorial board for the Justice and Peace Action Network (JPANet), the UCC’s electronic advocacy network. This is a two-year term position.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in meetings/projects of the Washington Interreligious Staff Community working groups and other meetings on domestic and international policy as needed.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of special projects and initiatives.
  • Serve as part of the JPANet editorial board. Assist in the planning, content, and building of action alerts as assigned.
  • Serve as a member of the joint planning committee of Ecumenical Advocacy Days (EAD).
  • Assist in planning and coordinating the UCC presence at EAD, with an emphasis on young adult participation.
  • Support seminars and set advocacy meetings for individuals and groups who visit to the Washington Office to learn about the work of faith-based advocacy.
  • Work on advocacy campaigns, such as Our Faith Our Vote, and their implementation throughout the UCC and among faith partners.
 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable education and experience;
  • Commitment to and ability to carry out the mission of the United Church of Christ through its Washington Office;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to handle multiple and complex projects, set priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team;
  • Respect for collaborative decision-making and community planning;
  • Self-motivation, dependability, flexibility, creativity, and problem solving skills
  • Ability to interact effectively and sensitively with persons from diverse backgrounds;
  • Interest in faith-based social justice policy advocacy and learning how federal policy shapes those efforts.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Additional Information:

  • This fellowship will be located in our Washington, DC Office, 100 Maryland Ave., NE, Suite 330, Washington, DC 20002 and requires at least 3 days/in the office.
