What We Are Looking For: NCU is currently seeking a dynamic individual to become part of our Graduate School team as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) Subject Matter Experts are responsible for serving as members on dissertation committees and working with the Dissertation Chair to guide students through their doctoral program research requirement.  The position requires that Adjunct SMEs provide content area expertise to evaluate the tenability of proposed research problems and the scholarly quality of literature syntheses by providing substantive, critical feedback.   Position Requirements ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Subject Matter Expert responsibilities include: Providing content area expertise on dissertation committees; Providing clear guidance to candidates to support doctoral program progress and successful completion; Providing critical feedback on dissertation milestone drafts especially concerning topic tenability, the quality and appropriateness of the literature review, the quality of the research problem, the (potential) contribution to the scholarly body of knowledge; Assisting doctoral candidates in understanding how to modify their dissertation milestone documents based on formal academic review feedback; Participating in the oral defense of their doctoral candidates; and Supporting the dissertation chair as they assist doctoral candidates with navigating the overarching dissertation process. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES   Skill in using Microsoft Office products, word processing tools such as insert comments, track changes and compare documents Skill in using APA writing conventions Knowledge of University policies and procedures Knowledge of academic and business workings of a higher education institution Skill in verbal and written communication Skill in operating equipment, such as personal computer, fax, copier, phone system Ability to communicate clearly to a variety of constituents Ability to communicate online including e-mail, chat rooms, videoconferencing, and other technology based communication media  EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  Required: Doctor of Philosophy or Applied Doctorate degree from accredited institution of higher learning Research-based, scholarly, peer-reviewed journal article publications Strong analytical and critical thinking skills Demonstrated writing skills Experience with the online delivery of education and the systems that support it All skills, abilities, and education will be considered for minimum qualifications Must have personal computer and ability to facilitate online instruction and communications remotely Preferred: Doctoral level qualitative methods, quantitative methods, or statistics teaching experience Served on dissertation committees PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
