Primary Responsibility: The Senior Services & Transportation Driver I is responsible for assisting in the daily operation of The Older Americans Act senior programs in Gilpin County, including the Seniors’ Nutrition Program, the Meals on Wheels Program, and the Transportation Program. The Senior Services Aide is responsible for the delivery of meals to clients at home; transportation of older adults in Gilpin County to the dining center, and for medical/dental, local priority, and grocery shopping trips.

FLSA status: Non-exempt (Determined by HR based on Fair Standards Labor Act)

Pay Grade: NE4 - $15.77 - $21.30 

Salary Information: $15.77 - $18.56 per hour DOQ.

Examples of Duties for Success:

  • Provides appropriate, individual client assistance and client intervention as needed under direction of the Program Coordinator
  • Adheres to a published schedule for transportation services.
  • Picks up seniors at their homes, transports them for program activities and medical appointments and returns them home safely. This includes assisting seniors in and out of vehicles, loading wheelchairs and carrying groceries.
  • May help to maintain routine vehicle safety/maintenance procedures, established by Program Coordinator and Volunteers of America which will sustain the vehicle in optimum operating condition.
  • Maintains vehicles in a clean and orderly condition.
  • May assist in maintaining the senior meal site in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Adheres to all Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment guidelines, and all federal, state, regional, county and agency program policies and procedures.
  • Serves as a liaison between clients and the Senior Services Program Coordinator.
  • Participates at interdisciplinary meetings to formulate/coordinate the Senior Program and case management
  • The Senior Services Aide will be responsible for provision of services to participants at the Dining Center and in the community.
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications for Success:

  • Must be able to operate 12 passenger van and maneuver around mountain roads safely.
  • Must be reliable and have flexibility to adapt to scheduling and job duty reassignments.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation in resolving issues without waiting a directive.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate and interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to accurately and effectively transmit and receive information that is necessary to the accomplishment of goals and objectives, including effective written and oral communication in English; and the ability to listen.
  • Must be able to maintain courteous and effective working relationships with the public, governmental agencies, and other County departments.
  • Community or family contact with a senior citizen population

Mental/Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to perform without additional assistance all physical movements necessary for assisting in the operation of the senior program. Must be physically able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Perform a wide variety of physical tasks such as bending, stooping, standing, walking, and climbing stairs.
  • Work in inclement weather

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required abilities, knowledge and skills as determined by Gilpin County may be substituted for the requirements above.

Certifications:

  • Must possess FEMA IS100 and IS700a within six months of employment.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s license without any restriction due to driving record. Must also be able to drive a county vehicle.

Hours: Office hours are from 8 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. Occasional working past 4:30pm.

Benefits Statement: Benefits begin 1st of month following 30 days of employment.

  • FT EE’s are paid 13 paid holidays. Vacation accrues at 3 - 8 hours bi-weekly to a max of 208 hours of rollover. 30 hours of personal leave per year prorated based on start date. Sick leave accrues bi-weekly at 4 hours to a maximum of 600 hours. Mandatory 5% contribution with a 5% County match into a 401(a)-retirement plan, voluntary 457(b) plans available. EAP, short-term disability, long-term disability, long term care, and a 50k life insurance policy provided at no cost to FT EE’s. Supplemental employee and dependent plans for life and long-term care available for employees to participate. Employee only plans for Medical, dental and vision starting at no cost to you. Gilpin County Parks & Rec discounts of 20% off services to all employees not including contract classes.
  • PT EE’s and temp EE’s sick leave accrues at a rate of 1 hour per 30 hours worked to a maximum of 48 hours per year. Voluntary 457(b) retirement plan available. EAP provided at no cost to PT EE’s and their family members. Gilpin County Parks & Rec discounts of 20% off services to all employees not including contract classes.
