Provides care to women during pregnancies and deliveries and calls on Physician if complications develop. Responsibilities: Performs nurse duties related to midwifery including gynecological exams, preconception care, prenatal care, labor and delivery care, care after birth. Educates women about different types of care available. Emphasizes patient education, active participation, and clear communication, between the provider and the woman and individualized healthcare experience. Obtains medical histories, performs physical examinations, makes diagnosis and orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests. Advocates birth education, relies on technology only when medically necessary. Writes prescriptions as needed. Serves as OB/GYN team member working closely with Physicians and other staff to support healthy pregnancies and deliveries. Oversees the medical care of assigned pregnant patients under the supervision of a physician. Ability to assess a situation, consider alternatives, and choose and appropriate course of action. Teaches patient about elements of mother-baby bonding. Knowledge of nurse midwifery principles and techniques Ability to participate effectively as a team member Knowledge of methods ensuring safe working environment for patient, family and staff. On call responsibilities and flexible office shifts.   Category Nursing   Exempt/Non-Exempt Non-Exempt   Location Argen Medical - OB/GYN   Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time   Position Requirements Qualifications: Current New York State license as a Nurse Practitioner or New York State License to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse Possession of or eligibility for NYS Licensure, ACNM/AMCB Certification Working knowledge of Electronic Medical Records Excellent communication, decision making, and problem solving skills Knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations Physical Demands: May spend a great deal of their professional day walking, standing, moving and manipulating equipment, as well as lifting and moving objects, equipment and supplies. Ability to lift 20 pounds. Moving, lifting or transferring of patients or objects may involve lifting of up to 50 pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than one-hundred (100) pounds.
