SUMMARY: The Director of Photography (DP) is responsible for the artistic and technical aspects of capturing visually stunning and compelling imagery. This leadership role involves overseeing the camera department, grip department, and electric department, collaborating closely with the director, and ensuring the visual storytelling aligns with the project's creative vision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Collaborate closely with the director and production team to understand the project's visual goals, creative vision, and technical requirements.
• Develop a visual concept and style that enhances the storytelling, capturing the desired mood, atmosphere, and emotions.
• Select appropriate camera equipment, lenses, grip equipment, lighting fixtures, and other accessories to achieve the desired aesthetic and technical quality.
• Direct the camera crew, grip team, and electric team in setting up shots, framing compositions, executing camera movements, and arranging lighting setups.
• Determine optimal camera angles, lighting setups, grip equipment usage, and shot sequences to enhance the visual narrative.
• Collaborate with the production designer and lighting team to ensure cohesive and visually appealing sets.
• Monitor and adjust camera settings, exposure, focus, grip equipment, and lighting during filming to maintain visual consistency.
• Stay updated with the latest camera technologies, equipment, grip tools, lighting techniques, and cinematography techniques to push creative boundaries.
• Manage the camera department, grip department, and electric department workflows, including organizing equipment, overseeing maintenance, and coordinating crew schedules.
• Collaborate with the post-production team to ensure the footage is delivered in the desired format and meets technical specifications.
• Adhere to safety guidelines and best practices while operating equipment, arranging lighting setups, and working in various shooting environments.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this role successfully, the Director of Photography should possess the following qualifications:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in film production, cinematography, or a related field is preferred.
• Proven experience as a Director of Photography or Cinematographer, showcasing a strong portfolio of visually stunning and technically proficient work.
