The Spiral Garden is an integrated art/garden/play program for children and youth with physical disabilities and developmental delays. Participants will interact and play through music, visual art, movement, drama, gardening and other arts activities. Key Responsibilities Provide 1:1 support for assigned client (communication, personal care, eating support, focus, behaviour, activity tasks etc.) Facilitate assigned client’s fullest possible participation in the program Assist Care Coordinator with other clients’ needs as necessary Assist safe participation of clients Support lunch/break times of client/s Contribute to daily debriefing meetings Collaborate with program staff, volunteers and families Work as a team member with the larger Team, including site prep and clean up, participation in group activities such as arts activities, music etc. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices Encourage and support participants in oral communication, working with others, problem solving, decision-making, task planning and organizing, and peer socialization. Apply crisis intervention strategies calmly and effectively, respond quickly to situations. Ability to work in a busy, creative environment and physically demanding (lifts and transfers) Other duties as assigned Qualifications Successful completion of a Diploma in Developmental Service Work, Personal Support Worker certificate/diploma, nursing education, child youth worker/development degree/diploma or equivalent combination of relevant experience and education required. Basic CPR certification – Basic Rescuer (C) certificate an asset Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate an asset ASL qualifications an asset Proven experience and training working with children or youth with physical disabilities, developmental delays and those who are neurodivergent Experience with creative arts (music, art, drama) facilitation and participation preferred Demonstrates ability to be flexible, to assess the needs of individuals and to respond quickly to needs Demonstrates initiative and self direction to work independently at times Demonstrates ability to organize time and manage working hours Demonstrates ability to work in collaboration with staff/clients/families Demonstrates sound judgment and excellent communication skills Ability to perform lifts, transfer or position participants ages 4 to 18 independently, as needed and appropriate Ability and experience in feeding and providing personal care to participants independently, as needed and appropriate   About the Organization Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital creates a world of possibility by supporting children and youth with disabilities, medical complexity, illness and injury.
