Muth Power Solutions is seeking a Control systems estimator to support our continued growth in industrial automation and custom control systems. This role is ideal for an experienced Controls Engineer or Technician ready to bring their technical knowledge into a fast-paced estimating and customer focused environment.
You will be responsible for creating accurate estimates, building strong customer relationships, and helping drive new business. This position reports directly to the Sioux Falls Division Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop detailed estimates for control system projects, including labor, material, subcontractor, and equipment costs
Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and customer scopes of work
Assist in development of design assist type of work through communication with the owner/customer
Follow up on submitted bids and work closely with customers to answer questions or clarify proposals
Attend turn-over meetings as required for each project
Attend pre-bid meetings to understand scope of work
Attend face-to-face meetings with potential customers to understand their needs and build relationships
Track and pursue opportunities listed on public bid platforms and procurement sites as well as reporting any new opportunities to immediate supervisor.
Interface with vendors and suppliers for accurate material pricing
Collaborate with the engineering, panel shop, and project management teams to ensure estimate alignment
Maintain organized records of all bids, pricing, and communications
Support business development initiatives and contribute to strategy discussions
Stay up to date on the latest means and methods required within the control systems scope of work
Preferred Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in control systems, automation, or related technical field
Background as a Controls Engineer, Technician, or similar role strongly preferred
Familiarity with PLC and HMI programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens)
Strong knowledge of UL 508A and UL 698A panel design and assembly
Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic control systems
Experience with structured cabling and OT/IT networking
Awareness of machine safety standards and best practices
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple active estimates at once
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
