Summary:

The Mechatronics Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting our purpose of creating lasting value to those we serve by serving as a key interface and essential resource for both our internal and external customers. The Mechatronics Specialist will collaborate with the Account Managers and Solution Architects as part of a Selling team. The Mechatronics Specialist is primarily responsible for offering technical expertise within their specialty area. This Specialist will be responsible for supporting our commercial plan and take the lead role in developing a competency plan to ensure that our internal sales staff are adequately prepared to maximize share gain. They help offer lasting value to our customers by providing them with the best solutions to solve their automation challenges. The other key responsibility is to grow the business within their specialty area to achieve our company’s net income goals. This individual displays behaviors that support our culture, our 5 P’s and our purpose to create lasting value to those we serve.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

  • Build and maintain customer relationships.
  • Assigned to key conversion opportunities in their area of expertise and industry focus.
  • Provide Technical Expertise in the following areas: Motion Control, Robotics, Mechatronics, Independent Cart Technologies, Digital Twin Software solutions
  • Collaborate with Account Managers and members of the Selling team as required to fulfill customer requests
  • Lead the Solution Development stage of the Sales Process for Smart Machine & Robotics Initiative opportunities
    • Advise team members on solution development, proposal generation and validation.
    • Help demonstrate the value of our solutions via on site customer demos and technical workshops
  • Assist in strategic product Conversion Opportunities
    • Work as a member of our Selling team to educate customers that use competitive solutions on new offerings and solutions that can help solve their automation challenges.
    • Assist in product selection/recommendations and developing complete bill of material
    • Provide competitive solution for both the customer and application
    • Sell The Entire Solution by offering related products that will support the success of the application
  • Competitive Intelligence - be able to analyze competitive solutions, help position our solutions and articulate their value proposition accordingly.
    • Be comfortable influencing customer on value of Van Meter’s solution vs competition.
  • Ability to train internal staff on the sales and commercial aspects of motion control, mechatronics and robotics products, including features, benefits, applications, and markets.
  • Assist Industrial Account Manager in identifying strategic and target customers within their specialty area
  • Assist in Special Pricing Agreements
    • Work with Automation Suppliers to quote special projects for customers
    • Assist in identifying market relevant pricing
    • Keep abreast of the competitive landscape of product area and negotiate applicable pricing with supplier
  • Work with Account Managers and the rest of the sales team to maximize profitability on orders.
  • Assist with new product launches.
    • Assist in assuring we have proper inventory levels at all locations
    • Assist in initial stocking orders
  • Proactively assist with the sales process, goals, and profitability of the Automation segment specialty
  • Review and analyze reports of business transactions to understand progress to goal and target identification
  • Actively seek out and participate in both formal and informal training opportunities to continuously develop skills.
  • Support Van Meter’s growth & commercial strategies
  • Proactively provide Sales Enablement on industry trends, how our solutions align and how they deliver desired customer outcomes
  • Keep sales activity, sales process milestones and customer relationship management data up to date in CRM
  • Identify gaps in Van Meter’s offerings and provide feedback to Solution Architects & Business Managers

Job Requirements/Specifications:

  • Minimum two year degree or equivalent experience required
  • Extensive working knowledge of Rockwell Automation Motion Control solutions
  • Knowledge and experience with Robotics-selection & programming
  • Knowledge and experience with Mechatronics products and solutions
  • Strong commercial skills and business acumen
  • Microsoft 365 Skills required
  • Experience working in a Customer Relationship Management system, MS Dynamics preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills via phone, email and in person are required
  • Industry experience a plus
