Description

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified.

 

Summary of Responsibilities: The Associate Athletic Trainer works in the athletic training room and is responsible for all activities related to athletic training including student staff supervision, practice and game coverage and athletic departmental involvement as required and requested. Work Calendar: This position will work from August 1st until July 31st; however, this position is only scheduled to work eleven of the twelve months of the year. The Athletic Director and Head Trainer will determine which days/months will be required to work. The Associate Athletic Trainer reports directly to the Head Athletic Trainer and helps to oversee the athletic training room and activities related to athletic training.

 

Essential Responsibilities: (These essential responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.)

  1. Be involved in all aspects of athletic training and activities to include but not limited to:
    1. Maintains up-do-date knowledge of, and compliance with, Geneva College, NCAA Division III, PAC, and NCCAA rules and regulations.
    2. Maintains up-to-date health history files and insurance information for all student athletes.
    3. Assists in ensuring a safe playing environment for student athletes.
    4. Maintains injury reports in an appropriate time frame for all injuries.
    5. Aids in prevention, evaluation, and treatment of all athletic injuries.
    6. Designs and supervises rehabilitation programs.
    7. Assists team physician in conducting pre-participation physical exams.
    8. Model Christian attitudes and behaviors for student athletes, students, staff, and fans.
    9. Demonstrates concern for the spiritual, academic, physical, and emotional well-being of each student athlete.
      1. Actively encourages and supports the Christian faith of student athletes, including encouraging them in spiritual disciplines such as church attendance, prayer, and Bible study. In the case of non-Christian student athletes, encourages them to build a personal relationship with Christ.
      2. Actively encourages and supports the academic success of student athletes, including encouraging regular class attendance, and working to minimize conflicts between athletic and academic responsibilities.
      3. Actively encourages and supports the physical well-being of student athletes by working with the coaches to assure that the student athletes are physically ready to participate, which includes looking for signs of eating disorders or the use of illegal and/or unhealthful drugs and supplements and taking appropriate preventive measures and establishing healthy workout and practice schedules.
      4. Actively encourages and supports the psychological and emotional well-being of student athletes, provides appropriate mentoring and life guidance, and seeks professional assistance when circumstances warrant.
    10. Helps coordinate the distribution, collection, and storage of athletic training equipment and supplies.
  2. Other:
    1. Prepare and teach elective courses within the Tannehill Business, Accounting, and Sports Management Department.
    2. Actively participates in athletic department functions and meetings and in college committees as assigned.
    3. Maintains effective working relationships with administrative staff, coaches, student athletes, and other staff.
    4. Performs related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements - Labor:

  1. General: Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed or are able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations to safely perform the essential responsibilities of the job.
  2. Physical: Should be able to perform the following and similar physical demands in completing work tasks: climbing, stooping, reaching, pushing, feeling, crawling, crouching, lifting, pulling, standing, kneeling, carrying, handling, talking, hearing, seeing, and sitting. Able to lift up to 75 pounds regularly.
  3. Confidentiality: Individuals must recognize that management of data, including personal information, grades, budgets, programs, and policies is necessary to the operation of the College. Such information must be kept private and confidential for the protection of the College and to obey Federal and/or State laws. Should there be doubt as to whether a certain matter is to be protected, it should be discussed with your supervisor before making a disclosure.
  4. Mental: Must be able to reason, analyze, prioritize, conceptualize, make judgments, and solve problems.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum:
    1. Education/Certification: Must have graduated from an accredited athletic training program. BOC certification required; NATA recommended. PA license(s) required or ability to obtain. First Aid and CPR certification required.
    2. Experience: At least 1 year of related experience in athletic training.
    3. Skill/Abilities: Valid driver’s license. Willingness to travel overnight and weekends. Ability to work evenings and weekends. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Operate a PC and related software.
    4. Christian Commitment: An eligible candidate must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of an evangelical Protestant Christian church. Preference will be given to candidates who support and have an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. The individual must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.
  2. Preferred:
    1. Education/Certification: Any postgraduate degree in related fields such as Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Coaching Education, etc.
    2. Experience: At least 1+ year(s) of experience at the collegiate level.
