Description

Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Late Deafened or DeafBlind Therapist

Services for Persons who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Late Deafened or DeafBlind at Valley Community Services Board in Staunton Virginia is seeking to hire a Licensed Professional Counselor or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for the position of Regional Counselor for the Deaf. This position is a full-time with benefits position and will be supervised by the State Coordinator for Services for Persons who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Late Deafened or DeafBlnd.

Essential Functions

  • Conducts intake interviews and performs clinical assessments to determine client’s need for service for VCSB.
  • Provides individual, marital, and family therapy for individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, late deafened, and deafblind and their families for Region I Community Services Boards (CSB) and Blue Ridge Behavioral Health (BRBH) as needed.
  • Conducts intake interviews and performs clinical assessments to determine client’s need for service for Virginia School for the Deaf at least weekly.
  • Provides individual and family therapy for persons who are deaf, hard of hearing, late deafened, and deafblind and their families within Virginia School for the Deaf at least weekly.
  • Provides consultation to VCSB and/or Region I clinical staff working with individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, late deafened, and deafblind.
  • Works one day per week with Rappahannock Area CSB (RACSB) under a letter of agreement signed yearly by Executive Directors of VCSB and RACSB.
  • Develop programs and activities that meet the identified needs of the population.
  • Consult with service delivery agencies within Region I and provide support for communication access and consultation for working with persons who are deaf, hard of hearing, late deafened, and deafblind.
  • Coordinate the American Sign Language Interpreter Requests for VCSB.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in human services or related field from an accredited program.
  • License-eligible in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Fluent in American Sign Language both expressively and receptively.
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals who are otherwise qualified for the position but unable to drive due to disability.

Preferred Qualifications

For this position, the most competitive candidates will possess:

  • Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as an LPC, LCSW or Licensed Clinical Psychologist.
  • Have a sensitivity to, knowledge of and/or lived experience in Deaf Culture and through behavior and interactions demonstrate this cultural and linguistic competence.
  • Fastidious detail management and organizational skills are strongly preferred.
  • An appreciation for and support of diversity in all its forms, and a demonstrated ability to interact with or serve individuals with diverse backgrounds, including clients, coworkers, and members of the community.

 

Salary is commensurate with experience and license status.
