JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Fitness Manager, each instructor is responsible for leading safe, effective group exercise classes that meet particular class requirements and members’ needs. Each instructor must be a leader, role model, educator, motivator and advisor. Regulations and guidelines established by organizations such as A.C.S.M., A.C.E., and A.F.A.A. must be adhered to when conducting group exercise classes.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

  • Current CPR certification.
  • Current fitness instructor certification through a nationally recognized professional association.
  • Minimum experience of one year instructing group exercise classes, or willing to train under the direction of Fitness Manager.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Thorough understanding of anatomy, physiology and the effects of exercise on the body.
  • Basic nutrition knowledge.
  • Must possess good teaching and communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate participants and treat them as individuals.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead safe and effective exercise classes.
  • Begin and end classes on time.
  • Secure a substitute and inform Fitness Manager in the event that you are unable to teach a class.
  • Monitor participants throughout entire class.
  • Offer and demonstrate exercise modifications based on participants needs and levels of fitness.
  • Follow check-in policies for each class.
  • Swipe member’s cards through electronic attendance system.
  • Provide suitable music and routines according to class descriptions.
  • Show evidence of continuing education through participation in seminars and workshops.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings
  • Abide by the Bolingbrook Park District dress code for your area
  • Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Park District’s safety program.
  • Work as a Team Player with co-workers and in conjunction with other departments.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Talking/hearing: To communicate to participants; to do routines to music

Seeing: To observe and assist participants

Standing: To instruct participants

Sitting: To instruct participants

Pushing/pulling: To instruct and assist participants

Stooping: To instruct participants and retrieve equipment

Lifting: To move work out mats, free weights, & exercise balls & reposition bikes

This is a part time hourly, non-exempt position.

HOURS

Facility is open 7 days a week and hours will be set by the Fitness Manager based on program schedule.
