Starting Pay: $19.6027 Hourly ($40,774)
After 1st Year: $21.4184 Hourly ($44,550)
After 2nd Year: $24.5841 Hourly ($51,135)
After 3rd Year: $25.2496 Hourly ($52,519)
After 4th Year: $25.8921 Hourly ($53,856)
After 5th Year: $26.5856 Hourly ($55,298)
After 6th Year: $27.3115 Hourly ($56,808)
After 7th Year: $28.0829 Hourly ($58,412)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate degree in a paralegal program -AND- at least one (1) year of full-time paid experience as a Paralegal or Legal Assistant;
-OR-
Certificate as a Paralegal or Legal Assistant from an ABA approved program -AND- at least two (2) years of full-time paid experience as Paralegal or Legal Assistant;
-OR-
At least four (4) years of clerical experience in a legal setting -AND- completion of at least twenty-one (21) credits in the core curriculum Paralegal program classes qualifying as the core curriculum will be determined by the Human Resources Department).

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs paralegal tasks related to the operation of the Genesee County Legal Resource Center; performs legal research; responds to requests for information; maintains a computerized legal research function; works under supervision; performs related duties as required.

STATEMENT OF TASKS:

  • Receives and organizes legal research materials, in both electronic and hard copy format;
  • Receives and distributes legal reference materials to judges;
  • Assists patrons in the use of Michigan Legal Help and other resources;
  • Works with and may be assigned to manage the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and Mediation Dockets;
  • Works with and may be assigned to manage the Michigan Assigned Appellate Counsel System (MAACS) for the Court;
  • Works with and may be assigned to assist with compiling the annual approved bondsperson list;
  • Responds to inquiries regarding court operations and routes calls to appropriate offices.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of legal reference materials;
  • Knowledge of PCs and computerized legal research materials;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with members of the legal community and the general public;
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions;
  • Ability to attend work regularly and interact with the public on issues that are often lifechanging and stressful;
  • Ability to work independently, collaboratively and respectfully in a complex, multicultural work environment that values diversity, equity and inclusion.
