JOB SUMMARY:

The Custodian is responsible for the cleanliness and sanitation of the areas assigned. The incumbent is accountable for the completion of assigned duties with minimum level of supervision. Duties include, but are not limited to, mopping, dusting, trash removal, window washing, meeting setup, pool cleaning, snow removal, lawn care, and other general cleaning responsibilities. The incumbent interacts positively with members and staff and will respond to requests personally or informs the appropriate maintenance staff member.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Complete all duties listed on daily schedule and maintain daily upkeep of assigned area and equipment.
  • Perform janitorial duties which include, but are not limited to, wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, meeting set up, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning as requested or needed.
  • Clean up blood or other bodily fluids which could contain bloodborne pathogens.
  • Operate motorized equipment used in cleaning and seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal.
  • Report all needed repairs to supervisor, record all needed repairs, and repair as directed.
  • Ensure YWCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.

RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the Facilities Operations Engineer who reports to the Facilities Director. The incumbent will interact with Health and Wellness Team, Site Leadership Teams, Facilities Team, Contractors and Members.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able and willing to develop:
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment;
  • Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of the equipment used for cleaning;
  • Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use;
  • Willingness to learn and share new and better methods of cleaning;

Preferred

High School Diploma or GED

Previous custodial experience

WORK CONDITIONS:

  • Perform essential housekeeping to facility of equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi-reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back.
  • Ability to perform tasks outdoor in different climates;
  • Work with cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, paint, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms.
  • Work in conditions that can create dirt and dust.
  • Safely operate cleaning equipment may involve, but not limited to the following: auto scrubber, buffer, snow blower, sweeper, tractor, box/trash compactor, aerial lift, pressure washer, hand and power tools.
  • Move or lift materials and tools up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to respond to emergency/on-call situations.
  • Erect and stand on scaffolding, ladders, and platforms.
  • Work at heights up to 30 feet for extended periods of times.
  • Ability to work on a computer.
