Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of the two co-directors, the position also supports five professional staff. The incumbent drafts, edits, and/or finalizes correspondence, assembles kits, prepares materials and completes large volume mailings for various meetings; answers department phone; sends out information materials in response to requests and handles logistical preparations for meetings.
 

Position responsibilities:

  • Act as lead administrative assistant for Human Rights and Community Relations (HRCR).
  • Department budgetmeister to include coordinating HRCR budget, systems testing and affiliate support.
  • Provide support for HRCR meetings and conferences.
  • Maintain the Allied National Calendar of Events used by the department.
  • Process monthly reconciliation of the department’s AFT-issued credit card.
  • Track the department’s board and ally group memberships and process dues and membership payments accordingly.
  • Manage the department’s rental agreements for remote workspace, processing contracts and payments accordingly.
  • Manage community engagement meetings and process contributions to community ally groups.
  • Coordinate AFT delegations to board and ally group meetings and events, including event registrations, travel, and housing accommodations, and distributing meeting and event agendas and itineraries.
  • Support meetings of the AFT Civil and Human Rights Committee and the AFT Executive Council Committee on Human Rights and Community Relations, including scheduling meeting dates and times, coordinating meeting logistics, distributing meeting agendas, managing resolutions and other bodies of work from the committee, and other tasks as needed.
  • Act as lead support staff for the AFT Civil, Human and Women’s Rights biennial conference, including event registrations, travel and housing accommodations, and distributing meeting and event agendas and itineraries,
  • Act as lead support staff for the Human Rights Luncheon held at the AFT’s biennial convention, including speaker and program coordination, event ticketing and registrations, event logistics, distributing event information and securing and distributing awards.
  • Provide administrative support to the AFT Secretary-Emeritus, including creating correspondence, scheduling meetings and coordinating travel accommodations.
  • Act as co-coordinator with lead staff on national mobilizing events i.e., March on Washington.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

Work is generally performed in a work environment with occasional travel required.

Vaccine Requirement:

AFT requires that all staff take a self-administered AFT provided rapid-antigen test weekly.
