This Neuromotor team works with children who have neuromotor disorders such as cerebral palsy who are up to the age of 18 years.

To meet these complex needs, services can include assessment, diagnosis, consultation and intervention from various disciplines including medicine, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, OT/PT Assistants, psychology, social work and speech-language pathology. The disciplines work in collaboration with our community partners to provide a continuum of care. This is a fast paced, dynamic work environment requiring the candidate to work independently as well as collaboratively with other professionals involved in the client and family’s care.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Partner with clients and families to formulate and implement individualized client-centered goals with focused, targeted and measurable outcomes.
  • Provide client care in collaboration with the client/family to plan, implement and evaluate care, documenting the habilitative/rehabilitative process according to hospital policies.
  • Interface and problem solve with members of the interprofessional care team and community providers as appropriate to ensure an integrated approach to care.
  • Incorporate evaluative activities into professional practice to ensure the delivery of efficient and effective health care.
  • Utilize research to establish and support evidence-informed practice.
  • Utilize the teaching/learning process to provide education on various conditions, both formal and informal, to clients/families, colleagues, students, and other professionals within the organization and the community.
  • Demonstrate strong clinical reasoning skills in assessment and planning of interventions with client and families.
  • Provide direct service (individual and/or group), consultation, mediation and education to clients, families, and community providers with focus on maximizing the client’s physical functioning.
  • Promote and support the physical, psychosocial and spiritual well being of patients and families.
  • Practices according to organizational policies and standards for practice as set out by the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario and Holland Bloorview policies and standards.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices.
  • This position may require flexible work hours consistent with program requirements (may be required to work some evenings and/or weekends).
  • Documents according to Physiotherapy standards of College and Hospital.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively and efficiently manage fluctuating clinical responsibilities
  • Contributes to the academic agenda through education or research, and supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment that advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices
  • Document workload statistics according to the Workload Measurement of the Ministry of Health
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy required; Master's degree in Physiotherapy preferred
  • Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
  • Membership in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and/or the Ontario Physiotherapy Association is an asset.
  • Experience with children with cerebral palsy or neuromotor conditions an asset
  • Knowledge of and skills in physical therapy assessment and treatment of children and youth with a variety of conditions
  • Knowledge of and experience with physical therapy assessment techniques, therapeutic skills, modalities and their applications.
  • Experience with current outcome measures (i.e. Canadian Occupational Performance Measure, Goal Attainment Scaling, and GMFM)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage fluctuating clinical responsibilities effectively and efficiently
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, families and members of the interprofessional care team
  • Proven ability to independently and collaboratively as a member of an interprofessional team is essential
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development
  • Status appointment in the Department of Physical Therapy at University of Toronto is an asset
