Position: Golf Shop Assistant

Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Head Golf Professional

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Golf Shop Assistant presents a professional and positive image of the organization while attending to the needs of NCGA Members and guests before, during, and after their round at Poppy Hills. They will be responsible for making tee time reservations, collecting green fees, selling merchandise, answering telephones, handling inquiries, and maintaining a professional golf shop space. This position will receive direct supervision and is expected to work collaboratively with other members of the Golf Operations staff to service the patrons of Poppy Hills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist NCGA members and guests, and all other patrons with their golfing needs, ensuring that every step of their golf experience at Poppy Hills runs as smoothly and is as enjoyable as possible.

  • Greet and communicate clearly with all patrons in a professional and courteous manner. Answer questions and provide assistance and information to Members & Guests.

  • Answer telephones to schedule future tee times and communicate information in a pleasant and professional manner. This may include:

    • Accurately record time and date of reservation in the online reservation system.

    • Make corrections and update the online reservation system as appropriate when reservations have been filled or canceled.

    • Email and telephone members/guests to verify advance reservations.

    • Advises guests of any abnormal golf course conditions (overseeding, aerification etc.)

  • Accurately open, operate and close the point of sale system. Collect green fees, cart fees, and other incomes. Handle and count cash, make accurate change, record credit cards, gift certificates and NCGA member charges described by standard operating procedures.

  • Assist with physical inventories for pro shop merchandise as required.

  • Assist with the daily cleaning to ensure continued cleanliness and appearance of the Golf Shop, storage areas, and merchandise displays.

  • Professionally communicate information, sell merchandise, and become fully knowledgeable in all products and sales techniques. Anticipate the needs of NCGA Members and other guests and offer appropriate merchandise alternatives.

  • Assist with all opening & closing procedures for the Golf Shop.

  • Communicate up to date information accurately and effectively using radio communications to all areas of the golf course (i.e. Caddie master, outside operations, maintenance, etc.)

  • Support safe work habits and a safe working environment at all times.

  • Additional duties as assigned, including professional development.

 
Position Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, golf facility operations, and tournament operations

  • Previous experience working on a golf course and in the pro shop.

  • Experienced in tournament software operation

  • Strong organizational, planning and prioritization skills

  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work with people from a diverse range of backgrounds

  • Good communication skills both verbally and written

  • Ability to communicate in the English language

  • Remain up to date on customer relationship management tactics and strategies

  • Exceptional computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher. Proficient in other applications, i.e., email, Google Suite, CRM software preferred.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to complete instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

This is a Non-Exempt position, with a targeted salary of $18.00-$21.00 per hour. Some clothing will be provided, with the employee expected to source and maintain a high-standard of attire at all times.

  • Full-Time Employees: Benefit package includes health, dental and vision insurance. Dependents may be added with premiums paid by the employee. Participation in the company’s 401k plan after one full year of employment. PTO, holidays, meals, and golf benefits also included.

  • Part-Time Employees: Participation in the company’s 401k plan after one full year of employment. Sick leave, holidays, meals, and golf benefits also included.
