The Position:

The Psychometrist provides comprehensive neuropsychological assessment services for children and adolescents with acquired brain injury. The Psychometrist will work in a client-family centred framework under supervision from a member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario. Within the framework of the Vision, Mandate, And Core Values of the organization, he/she supports the development of partnerships with clients, families and other health professionals to ensure optimal psychological services.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical

  • Conducts psychoeducational or neuropsychological assessments, including test administration, scoring, norming of tests, and aspects of report-writing.
  • Provides perceptive behavioural and/or test setting observations
  • Obtains necessary background information to inform the assessment and to provide information to clients/families about the testing process.
  • Documents as necessary according to professional standards and hospital policy with respect for the client’s right to confidentiality.
  • Works with the interdisciplinary team to provide client and family-centred care which is goal directed, evidence based and outcome oriented.
  • Keeping up-to-date of new test measures or versions of tests as they become available.
  • Maintains the test library by managing test orders and inventory
  • Supports the triage and management of referrals.

Professional Development/Education/Leadership

  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices.
  • Delivers care based on established policies and procedures
  • Documents on client charts as required, according to organizational charting guidelines
  • Enters accurate workload statistics
  • Involvement in psychology and inter-professional education
  • Participates on committees, in the development of program activities and Psychology practice as requested
  • Participates in quality improvement activities and supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment for staff, clients and families.
  • Support the training of psychology practicum students, psychology residents and psychometrists.

Research

  • Participates in research activities as applicable
  • Utilizes research information to support evidence-based practice
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives
  • Supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices

Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Psychology or equivalent graduate education with training in psychological assessment. Individuals working towards a graduate degree in psychology with an assessment focus will also be considered.
  • Psychological assessment experience required.
  • Previous psychoeducational and/or neuropsychology assessment, test scoring and report writing experience with individuals unique medical, neurological and developmental presentations preferred.
  • Paediatric experience preferred
  • Experience in an interdisciplinary setting preferred.
  • Demonstrates an ability to:
    • Work effectively as a member of the interdisciplinary team, under the supervision of a Psychologist
    • Work independently, following directions of clinical supervisor
    • Relate well to professionals, children, adolescents and family members
    • Effectively and efficiently manage fluctuating clinical responsibilities and deadlines
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Effective interpersonal and collegial skills
    • Well-developed observational skills to identify clinical issues that extend beyond test scores
