Intake Clinician 

Description

Purpose:

To improve access to core mental health services by providing timely, initial assessments and evaluations to adult clients who present for same day services. This will include completing clinical, safety and brief substance use disorder assessment and brief interventions to determine the level of services needed and referral to the appropriate services.

Essential Functions:

  1. Following an Open Access model; provide a timely initial assessment to individuals who present for same day service.
  2. Formulate the disposition of the initial assessment which could include completing an intake to engage in services or a referral for follow-up services.
  3. Reduce the duration of individuals waiting for assessment of mental health symptoms and safety risk factors by responding to individuals within 60 minutes of arrival.
  4. Identifies strengths and needs of client/consumer and families and acts to involve them in planning for desired services.
  5. Provide brief therapeutic interventions as appropriate to training and experience.
  6. Provide brief assessment, intervention and referral for substance use disorders.
  7. Familiarizes client/consumer with community resources for educational, cultural, recreational and social activities.
  8. Engage individuals more deeply from their first encounter with Wyandot Center by being responsive to their immediate needs and concerns.
  9. Works with team members, community partners and service organizations to closely collaborate care and other community services or resources.
  10. Completes intakes for admission to the Community Mental Health Center.
  11. Facilitates petitioning process and/or serves as the petitioner for involuntary commitments to the State Mental Health Hospital, when necessary.
  12. Provides crisis interventions, assessments and resource planning to adults, children and their families as needed.
  13. Completes timely and accurate documentation of services in the medical record.
  14. Models and inspires flexibility and creativity in the delivery of clinical services.
  15. Assures compliance with Medicaid, State licensing regulations, grant and other contractual standards.
  16. Performs other duties as deemed appropriate by immediate supervisor or designate.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Must have a master’s degree and be a Licensed Mental Health Professional in the State of Kansas. Must have current licensure by the KS Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board such as an LMSW, LMFT, LPC, LMLP LCP, OR LSCSW. Preference given for dual licensure as a Licensed Master’s Addictions Counselor (LMAC) or ability to obtain licensure within 90 days of employment.

Experience:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including both oral and written. Experience and rapport development skills with people experiencing acute crisis. Ability to establish effective on-going professional working relationships with clients, internal partners, and various community partners. Computerized database, word processing, and spreadsheet experience required.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to write and speak concisely, succinctly, and accurately in a style appropriate to the audience.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be at ease in conversing with constituents at all levels.
  • Must have the ability to be always diplomatic and professional, while exercising excellent judgment and discretion as appropriate.
  • Persuasive, tactful and discreet with excellent follow-through are essential.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills, be detail-oriented, able to effectively multi-task.
  • Demonstrated or proven ability to set priorities, attain deadlines, while balancing multiple tasks.
  • Flexible and adaptable as demands and focus shift.
  • Must be self-directed, a self-starter, and can work under minimum supervision.
  • Must be tech-savvy and proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Exceptional rapport building skills with persons in crisis.
  • Strong decision-making skills in fast-paced environment.
  • Experience conducting Kansas hospital screens, preferred.
  • Creative, innovative, and flexible approach to work functions.
  • Bilingual and bi-cultural preferred.
  • Ability to be flexible in work hours.
