POSITION SUMMARY: The Department of Education at Moravian University invites applications for a Professor of Practice (non-tenured track position) to teach both undergraduate and graduate students in education, beginning in the Fall of 2024. The required area of specialization is in Special Education or related fields. Early childhood (PreK-6 experience) is preferred. Successful candidates will demonstrate a capacity to teach in teacher certification and endorsement programs in the areas of special education, f autism, social-emotional behavioral wellness, and/or ESOL teacher certification programs. The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to a liberal arts education. Candidates should demonstrate a strong teaching record, both in higher education and in K-12 public schools. The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their teaching and service, will support diverse students and underrepresented groups across the Lehigh Valley, and who will contribute to the intellectual life of the Department of Education and the University at large.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in special education and/or related fields.
  • 4:4 teaching load, with potential reassigned time as appropriate for administrative work.
  • Supervise student teachers in special education and early childhood education.
  • Advise undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Participate in professional organizations and societies.
  • Complement existing faculty expertise in early childhood and intersecting areas.
  • Contribute to the University's commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic community.

 

OTHER POSSIBLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Mentor undergraduate student research.
  • Participate and direct student Honor Theses.
  • Participate and direct Student Opportunities for Academic Research (SOAR) Projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in special education or relevant field (e.g., Disability Studies in Education, Autism)
  • Teacher certification in Special Education PreK-12
  • Demonstrable potential for excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and student advising.
  • At least three years teaching experience in public schools in early childhood inclusive classrooms.
  • Experience supervising student teachers in special education
