Materials Engineer, Resin 

Description
  • Resin engineer for all injection molded plastics for the Interiors business division
  • Comprehend OEM material requirements for injection molding in order to choose the best resin for the applicable job
  • Review and approve Material Certificate reports from Supplier PPAP packages to ensure all material, performance requirements per Print (File Logs) are met.
  • Write material specs which detail the certificate of analysis requirements for incoming resins into our plants and get approval from the resin suppliers to meet the material requirements
  • Support PDT (product development team) meetings and ensure PDP (Product development process) deliverables are met to schedule; Instrument panels, doors, consoles, & door modules
  • Work closely with the Injection Molding Tool Engineers on Mold Flow reviews, warp reduction plans, and Tool expansion Factors for tools used in injection presses up to 3500 tons
  • Support cost savings initiatives as required
  • Ensure prototype requirements are achieved
  • Support business pursuit with quote deliverables and technical reviews.
  • Ensure support plans and activities identified and executed for program launches at Inteva operations and Customer locations 
  • Develop new material technologies beneficial to product or process improvements
  • Investigate new materials beneficial for cost savings at plant and PDT levels
  • Investigate sustainable injection molded materials for improving the environment
  • Work closely with the other materials engineers to co-develop best marriage of materials
  • Provide Material & Engineering expertise for supplier evaluation (SCA-Supplier Capability Audit), negotiation, and agreements
  • Must maintain extreme level of confidentiality both internally and externally
  • Assist in NDA agreements for all potential suppliers
  • Effectively communicate project status to PDT and Manager
  • Travel required (up to 15% domestic and international)
 
Position Requirements
  • B.S. Engineering or equivalent – preferred Chemical knowledge
  • 5+ years experience preferred in injection molded plastics preferred
  • Works effectively in a team environment
  • High knowledge of the injection molding process
  • Have a working knowledge on Reactor grade polymers, twin screw compounded polymers, and single screw compound polymers.
  • Highly effective problem solving skills
  • Preferred knowledge of DOE (Design of Experiments)
  • Able to summarize then present data in structured and understandable manner
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Have a working knowledge of IATF 16949 Quality Standard and the requirements for material documents.
  • Have a working knowledge on Reactor grade polymers, twin screw compounded polymers, and single screw compound polymers.
  • Safety: Learn to complete CMAP forms and why. Current on SDS for all Interior Bulk resins. Safe handling, proper PPE.
  • Strong degree of self-motivation and self-direction
  • Willingness to travel for supplier visits and part trials (up to 15% domestic and international travel)
  • Willing to learn about Appearance: The color match, resistance to marring, Gloss, and grain: Craftsmanship of Interior panels.
  • Strong organization and documentation skills
  • High level knowledge of automotive interiors manufacturing systems, tools and processes
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain organization
  • Knowledge of full value stream for automotive interiors
  • Familiarity with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis
