Description

Reporting to the Senior IT Operations Manager, Database Administrator is responsible for administering all Microsoft SQL database servers. Assist with troubleshooting application issues on behalf of the users. Experience migrating legacy databases to newer versions and Microsoft Azure.

Essential Functions

  • Perform Microsoft SQL database administration including software installations/configurations for SQL Server 2000 to 2016.
  • Duties include developing and enforcing database standards and best practices including performance, security, monitoring policies and procedures along with researching improvements to enhance overall system performance.
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
  • Ensure all database data is protected by backups.
  • Ensures databases can be restored in disaster recovery situations.
  • Ability to maintain automated SQL Server installs that have been built in PowerShell.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving database integrity and performance issues.
  • Communicating regularly with infrastructure, applications, security and operational teams to ensure database integrity and security.
  • Manage project tasks, timelines, and communication.
  • Setting up, testing and managing BC/DR capabilities.
  • Create and maintain documentation of SQL systems and environments.

 
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong Experience with SQL Server 2000/2005/2008/2008R2/2012/2014/2016
  • Experience installing, configuring SQL Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
  • Experience with SQL Native Backups as well as non-native tools such as Veeam, Rubrik, etc…
  • Experience with SQL Central Management utilizing Master/Target servers
  • Experience with SQL DTS Packages
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure
  • Experience with vSphere and SQL VM best practices a plus
  • Working knowledge of Windows 2008/2012/2016/2019
  • Hands on experience installing, configuration and troubleshooting SQL Servers.
  • Experience monitoring and troubleshooting the SQL performance issues.
  • Monitoring Tools: SQL Sentry, Solarwinds
  • PowerShell or other scripting experience
  • Dedication to exceeding quality standards and providing services of the highest caliber
  • Excellent multi-tasking, problem solving, analytical, administrative skills

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor or Associate Degree in Accounting, Information Systems, or related field or possess equivalent work experience for the duties described.
  • 3+ years of experience in SQL Server database administration, development, reporting, concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Experience in an Insurance or Financial services company preferred

Licenses & Certifications

  • None required
  • Completion of LOMA insurance courses I and II required within first year of employment.
