MINIMIUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree -AND- two (2) years’ experience in probation, law enforcement, corrections, guidance and counseling, substance abuse services, pre-trial services, family counseling, vocational counseling or social work;
-OR-
Master’s degree -AND- one (1) year of experience in probation, law enforcement, corrections, guidance and counseling, substance abuse services, pre-trial services, family counseling, vocational counseling or social work;
-AND-
Obtain CCJP-M (Certified Criminal Justice Professional- Michigan) Certification within two (2) years.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Court Administrator or designee, provides support, guidance and consultation to other District Court social service workers- probation officers; assists in the orientation and training of new staff; coordinates with other departments and community agencies to establish referral processes for services; updates probation forms and referral forms as necessary; informs the Court Administrator or designee on probation needs.
STATEMENT OF TASKS:
- Performs any and all functions of the social service worker- probation officer classification as needed;
- Provides support, guidance and consultation to other district court social services workers- probation officers in all aspects of the job classification;
- Assists in the orientation and training of new staff;
- Coordinates with other county departments and community agencies to establish referral processes for services;
- Updates court forms as necessary;
- Maintains updated contact information for other departments and agencies;
- Conducts detailed sociological and economic investigations as ordered by the Court and makes recommendations based upon the investigation;
- Conducts interviews with appropriate parties as required;
- Writes case histories and/or casework studies and makes recommendations;
- Recommends appropriate payments where required;
- Investigates facilities to determine if they meet county standards;
- Prepares legal documents as required;
- Makes referrals to community agencies as required;
- Serves as liaison with other agencies;
- Implements programs as required in the specific department;
- Testifies in court as needed;
- May coordinate activities of volunteers and/or interns;
- Provides information to the public as required;
- Supervises individuals placed on formal probation;
- Maintains a variety of casework records and prepares special and periodic reports as require
