JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the delivery of patient care that promotes safety and well-being of all patients and staff in the patient rooms area. Plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates the overall clinical practices and activities necessary for the patient room area to function on a daily basis. Participates in the development and implementation of policies and procedures. Monitors actual patient care to assess the progress of the preoperative and postoperative process. Communicates any delays preoperatively to surgeons, anesthesiologists, operating room, and registration staff in a timely and accurate manner to ensure optimal use of schedule and patient flow. Maintains open communication with all staff to promote improvement in performance and quality care. Maintains patient rooms budget evaluates the capture of daily charges and maintains accountability for charges for supplies and equipment. Must be able to function in all phases of patient room care as needed to maintain clinical skills and serve as a role model. Must demonstrate advanced knowledge of all phases of perianesthesia care according to ASPAN professional standards of care. Promotes a positive work environment to enhance employee and patient satisfaction. Remains calm and effective in stressful situations and takes initiative in emergency situations. Able to prioritize, organize and multi-task. Participate in the interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination of employees. Demonstrates strong leadership and professionalism. Must be able to identify, intervene appropriately and resolve problems in a timely and respectful manner. Be able to use leadership skills to promote teamwork by example.

  • The Nurse Manager performs duties and responsibilities consistent with hospital policies and procedures and in compliance with regulatory bodies and the Indiana Nurse Practice Act.

QUALIFICATIONS:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Surgery Center Accountabilities: Interviews, hires, counsels and supervises training of staff for patient care area. Ensures staff development by providing orientation, regularly scheduled in-service programs and continuing education. Anticipates future schedule and coordinates efficient utilization of staff hours and resources. Plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates overall patient care for optimal results. Proficient as a perianesthesia nurse and able to function as a staff member when needed. Communicates with medical director, physician, coordinators and appropriate staff in a timely, effective manner for any patient care issues or changes in the surgery schedule. Monitors, evaluates and communicates any charging issues or cost containment practice concerns to appropriate staff. Ensures continuity of patient care by communicating with all surgeons, anesthesiologist, OR personnel and other staff any pertinent or abnormal findings. Continually evaluates staff performance informally and formally.

Position Requirements

MANDATORY LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:

CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation)
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Indiana

Additional licensure/credential requirements: Certified Operating Room Nurse – CNOR preferred

ADDITIONAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: ASN required, BSN Preferred with a minimum of 5 years clinical experience in Surgical Services. Mandatory Annual Continuing Education: Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Confidentiality-HIPAA, Infection Control, Corporate Compliance. Annual Unit Specific Competencies, and any education required by Regulatory Accreditation Agencies, Scope of Practice, and/or Hancock Regional Hospital.
