Together we can build our future! Cogent is currently seeking a Staff Accountant to work out of our Kansas City office. This position will be responsible for contributing to the overall success of the company by performing general accounting tasks necessary to maintain financial records and processes. Typical duties for this role may include: Preparation and review of journal entries Assisting in the completion of the month-end and year-end close Managing timely and accurate reconciliation of all assigned balance sheet accounts Reconciling the bank balances on a daily basis Processing bi-weekly payroll and making all related journal entries Reviewing and reconciling sales tax returns prepared by Avalara Preparation of reports/schedules and analysis for management team Assisting Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable teams with various tasks Assisting on various strategic projects Protecting the organization’s value by keeping information confidential   Position Staff Accountant   Position Requirements This position requires the following education and experience: 0-3 years’ experience in accounting Bachelors or Associates Degree in Accounting or Finance Qualified candidates should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles Strong attention to detail Ability to organize, prioritize and plan work while simultaneously managing several projects and meeting deadlines The ability to produce accurate reports while working in a fast-paced, changing environment Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems Knowledge of MS Office with strong Excel skills Excellent problem solving and customer service skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment Physical requirements of this position are: Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
