About the Organization A pioneering not-for-profit affordable housing developer and community programs initiator in New York City, Settlement Housing Fund, Inc. has worked since 1969 to create more than 9,000 apartments through 73 affordable rental and homeownership development projects. Settlement Housing presently owns and maintains 50 buildings with more than 3,100 apartments throughout New York City, with concentrations of housing and services in the Mt. Eden and Fordham Heights sections of the Bronx, Crown Heights, Brooklyn, the Lower East Side, as well as other sites throughout Manhattan. The organization is working on a growing pipeline of new construction and preservation projects throughout the city, and expanding its Resident Engagement Services to meet the housing stability needs of households leaving shelter and other at-risk tenants.



Settlement Housing Fund is the parent organization of The Crenulated Company, LTD dba New Settlement which was created in 1989 with the acquisition of 14 abandoned buildings from the City of New York. New Settlement has evolved into a robust social service organization offering a range of community-based services in education, college access, youth development, arts, workforce development, community organizing, wellness and other key services that provide important resources to the neighborhood's youth and families. New Settlement's success has been achieved through close collaboration with a wide range of educational institutions, housing and community development organizations, businesses, youth development and social service agencies - in the neighborhood, Bronx-wide, across New York and nationally. The programs at New Settlement are supported by local, state and federal government agencies, as well as foundations, corporations, organizations  
Description

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, the Coordinator of Work-Based Learning Initiatives will be responsible for combining and coordinating efforts of different stakeholders, assuring that work-based learning experiences effectively and efficiently help students develop knowledge, skills, attitudes, and work habits so they can move successfully into the world of work. The functions and responsibilities of the WBL Coordinator include program planning, development, and evaluation; related-class instruction; on-the-job instruction and coordination; guidance and advice; program administration and management; and community and public relations.

Job Duties include but not limited to:

  • Review the components and requirements of work-based learning programs

  • Build and maintain meaningful relationships with students, current and future partners to continue to expand opportunities for students

  • Work with students to troubleshoot any professional skills needs that may arise during the placement

  • Communicate effectively with school administration, program director and students and families

  • Attend any, and all team meetings

  • Maintain structure and discipline while encouraging and promoting student participation in a positive manner

  • Engage parents and cultivate relationships to create a collaborative environment

  • Work closely with school counselor(s), teachers, SPED and administration in the planning, development and evaluation of the program to ensure that decisions are made with equity and inclusion in mind

  • Design the program to include continued improvement and re-evaluation

  • Support students in applying for external WBL Opportunities, including SYEP

Related-Certification Class Instruction

  • Review and evaluate curriculum for related certification classes such as OSHA and Food Handler

  • Develop curriculum for both general-related and specific-related instruction; link efforts with other career and technical education staff to provide specific-related instruction

  • Develop outcome-based, measurable student objectives

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors in related field preferred

  • 2-3 years of experience working with youth

  • Certifications (i.e. OSHA + Food Handler Certified) Preferred but not required

  • Bilingual is a plus

Employment is at will and employees will undergo 45- and 90-day check-ins during their 90-day probationary period.
