Description

George School, a Quaker boarding/day grades 9-12 college preparatory school located in Newtown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, seeks an Associate Director of College Counseling.

POSITION SUMMARY: The George School College Counseling Office serves a diverse community, that includes 30 percent international students, 39 percent students of color, active student affinity groups such as SAGA, LASO, and SEASU to name a few. Our goal is to meet students where they are at and support them and their families in the journey to college. The Associate Director of College Counseling works and collaborates with others in the College Counseling Office to educate and assist George School students, grades 9-12, and their parents through the course selection, college search, application, and decision-making process. In addition to guiding individual students through the college search process from their sophomore year through college acceptance, writing letters of recommendation for them, assisting them in defining the right match, and advocating for them with their selected colleges, the Associate Director shares responsibility for educating parents and advisors, for teaching the college seminar, for traveling to get to know schools, and for keeping current with trends in national and international college admission. This is a 12-month position.

 
Position Requirements
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree (Master’s Preferred) and five years’ experience either in college admission or in independent school college counseling required. Knowledge of the current landscape in college admission, financial aid and athletics, are highly valued.
  • The strong desire to work with and engage with a diverse student population.
  • Excellent writing, editing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Facility with technology (GS uses SCOIR)) and database management.
  • Deep knowledge of college application and financial aid requirements and procedures.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Note: This position does not require the person to live on campus.
