VP, Appraisal Operations and Valuation Management 

Description

RCN Capital is seeking a VP, Appraisal Operations and Valuation Management to steward the organization's valuation processes towards an in-house model that will be mutually beneficial to RCN Capital and our partners. The role will have responsibility for reviewing and providing feedback on the presently used processes and technology, along with providing actionable solutions to address any concerns to build better programs and procedures. The VP, Appraisal Operations and Valuation Management will also be responsible for overseeing and providing coaching and mentor-ship to current and future valuation team members to increase overall understanding of appraisal processes and solidify knowledge and understanding of associated problem solving.

Once new procedures are identified this role will be responsible for communicating those to the originations teams, as well as other impacted areas, to ensure that there is a widespread organization understanding of any new operations and their benefit to RCN Capital. A cornerstone of this position will be to continually act as a point of contact for both internal and external partners who have questions, concerns or problems that need to be addressed within the area of appraisals and valuation.

By taking a key role in presenting in-house options for appraisal review and panels, this role will be instrumental in identifying and implementing strategies that will allow RCN to remain in a competitive position within the market while building better procedures to protect the company.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed review of appraisal and valuation processes to identify areas of concern and areas for improvement.
  • Provide suggestions and plans for implementation to address any problems found
  • Review technology in use by the valuation team and provide opinion regarding its place in the process, including recommending changes or eliminations of technology functions
  • In collaboration with the Treasury & Capital Markets team, identify what is needed to be competitive and find ways to implement changes quickly and efficiently with the goal of creating a more functional and beneficial process while ensuring any process improvements are scalable to increasing volume
  • Provide oversight, coaching, and mentor-ship to RCN Valuation team
  • Establish processes and procedures relating to appraisal management and review and work collaboratively with Originations and Treasury to implement those processes across the organization
  • Develop and establish infrastructure to support panels proposed to RCN that meet compliance standards for local, state, and federal regulations
  • Provide support to Chief Appraiser in terms of appraisal reviews and escalated concerns on an as-needed basis
  • Manage relationships with vendors as necessary to leverage partnerships
  • Participate in leadership and stakeholders meetings to provide expertise on the appraisal and valuation process with the goal of communicating complex ideas and implementing improvements
  • Additional projects as assigned

Required Skills:

  • Exemplary understanding of appraisal and valuation processes
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent skills in managing and leveraging partnerships
  • Goal-oriented approach to problem solving
  • Strong leadership acumen
  • Strong computer literacy, specifically with reporting tools and technology specific to the appraisal and valuation process

Required Experience:

  • At least 5-7 years of experience in a leadership role with a valuation team
  • At least 5-7 years of experience in managing third party or vendor relationships
  • Experience implementing process improvements
  • Experience in team leadership and development

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with private or hard money lenders preferred
  • Experience with multifamily products preferred
  • Experience with Connections preferred

Education:

  • Business, Finance, Economics, MIS/BIS or related field required
