Compensation & Benefits Manager 

Description

Manages salary and incentive programs, benefits programs, job evaluations, performance appraisals, and salary survey participation and procurement. Oversees collection and analysis of benchmark data to determine competitive positioning of the organization's pay programs and benefit offerings. Manages and administers annual compensation and benefits processes, including annual market pricing exercises, salary increase cycles, bonus plan administration, and benefits open enrollment. Renegotiates or re-evaluates vendors in search of opportunities for cost-saving. Maintains the integrity of data and reporting as well as system updates in the HRIS.

Compensation Responsibilities:

  • Presents analysis in the design, administration, and implementation of compensation programs and policies, inclusive of both base and variable pay programs to support the recruitment, development, and retention of a high-performing workforce.
  • Works collaboratively with management and HR Business Partners to resolve compensation issues; provide guidance regarding salary changes associated with promotions/transfers as well as market and equity adjustments.
  • Evaluates current compensation practices and assists in designing current processes and policies, including the establishment of standards and metrics
  • Conducts market analysis and research by participating in salary surveys to support compensation decisions; analyzes salary data and provides recommendations based on survey results for pay, pay for performance and retention.
  • Assists with the annual performance management and compensation planning activities and administration of the annual merit calculations.

Benefits Responsibilities:

  • Provide analytical support for associate benefit programs (e.g., 401(k), health insurance plans, group insurance) by analyzing trend data and legislative mandates/updates (e.g., Affordable Care Act, Family Medical Leave Act, etc.) to keep plans compliant and market competitive
  • Create and run reports from claims and/or HRIS system, analyze data, and perform cost projections
  • Monitor success measure of benefit programs and develop new measures to ensure costs are minimized and efficiencies are optimized by providing and presenting reports on benefit programs
  • Responsible for preparation/coordination and distribution of all legally required documents and annual financial and tax filings (e.g., summary plan descriptions, plan notices, 5500s, ACA reporting, etc.)
  • Provide system updates required for plan and contribution changes to ensure the integrity of data feeds to payroll and carriers
  • Support annual financial and tax reporting (e.g., 401(k) plan audit, calculation of retirement plan contributions) by gathering all required data from various sources, completing questionnaires, facilitating on-site audits, etc.
  • Assist with the development of communication materials, plan summaries, brochures, etc.
  • Maintain compliance required by DOL and IRS including the following (e.g., ERISA for 401(k), health and welfare compliance, HIPAA, COBRA, ACA)
  • Work with the HR Coordinator to maintain HRIS associate benefit records for payroll and various third-party providers (e.g., medical and dental, vision, basic and voluntary life, FSA's, FMLA, STD and LTD)

HRIS:

  • Works closely with the HR Coordinator to ensure the integrity of data and reporting in HRIS
  • Provides periodic system updates as required for changes to compensation and/or benefit plans.
 
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in business administration, human resources, or related field of study
  • Eight (8) plus years’ experience with compensation and benefits including program design and administration for compensation, health and welfare, retirement, and wellness plans.
  • Strong knowledge of HRIS systems and capabilitiesAdvanced MS Office skills especially Excel to include the ability to create reports, graphs, and spreadsheets (e.g., V-lookup, graphs, pivot tables)
  • Ability to identify issues, compare data, investigate, and resolve discrepancies
  • Ability to calculate, analyze, and interpret mathematical information such as percent differences, ratios, median, mean, weighted average, etc.
  • Ability to maintain composure and adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced, customer-focused work environment characterized by rapid change, minimal lead times, and multiple competing priorities
  • Ability to establish project plans, regularly monitor and track progress on work projects, and ensure appropriate communications with project partners
  • Excellent verbal and written skills necessary to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, quality, and accuracy
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset
