Description

Through Humble, Hungry, and People Smart attributes, the HR Generalist is responsible for coordinating a wide range of functions that encompasses all facets of Human Resources including payroll, benefits, recruiting support, performance management, policy/procedure administration and HR related training. The HR Generalist partners with leaders to create an environment of highly engaged, career focused internal Owners that take pride in consistently meeting and exceeding Northern’s established goals allowing the Credit Union to serve its members in accordance with Northern’s mission, vision, and strategic direction.

Essential Job Functions:

Assumes responsibility for accurately and efficiently completing payroll and benefits functions by:

  • Processing payroll weekly, ensuring all payroll records, including timecards, sick leave, annual leave, overtime, insurance deductions, and tax forms are properly maintained and preserved.
  • Ensuring employment and enrollment forms, including W-4s, insurance, retirement, and benefits documents are current and complete.
  • Assisting with preparing and reviewing employee benefit review statements.
  • Administering Northern’s benefits programs in partnership with HR business partner by processes claim resolution and changes of reporting.
  • Effectively communicating related benefits change information to employees and HR business partners.
  • Preparing and reviewing federal and state reports including EEO, AAP, OSHA, and Workers’ Compensation documents.
  • Maintains and updates employee files ensuring all employee files are complete and in compliance with Credit Union policies and legal regulations.
  • Ensuring all human resource records are maintained in accordance with established Credit Union policies and state and federal regulations.

Assumes responsibility for effectively completing assigned human resource functions by:

  • Consistently reviews and implements human resource operations plans, policies, procedures, and goals while recommending improvements as appropriate.
  • Effectively resolves employee requests, complaints, and problems courteously and promptly.
  • Ensuring accurate delivery of new hire onboarding programs and confirms employees are well informed of human resource policies and programs.
  • Effectively counsel’s department leaders on supervisory concerns including, but not limited to, PTO policies, CBA contract procedures, corrective actions, and performance management practices.
  • Supporting with recruiting and hiring of new employees while ensuring all department processes are effective and legally compliant.
  • Assisting the HR leadership team and department leaders with reviewing and updating job descriptions ensuring information is complete and current with all state and federal laws.
  • Assisting the HR Supervisor and participating in salary and other HR related surveys.

  • Leads and participates in department activities and meetings to maintain awareness, as well as educate others, of Credit Union initiatives, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in the future of the credit union by offering constructive suggestions that may attract new members and/or enhance product penetration and improve efficiencies.
  • Assists and provides support as needed for the HR Leadership.
  • Develops and maintains key business relationships with internal and external members, vendors, association groups, and other parties as necessary and appropriate in support of Credit Union programs.
  • Continually identifies and participates in educational programs such as Cornerstone online training resources, schools and/or conferences to develop greater knowledge and expertise in member service. Takes initiative for personal career development and seeks opportunities to learn new skills.
  • Telecommuting environment blended with local travel to Northern’s Watertown corporate office and relationship center locations.
  • After hours and Saturday support overtime may be required.

Qualifications, Skill and Experience:

  • Associate degree from accredited college or university with concentration in Human Resources or PHR certification required
  • 2+ years related HR experience is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including effective utilization of excel formulas for accurate and efficient reporting.
  • A significant level of diplomacy is required with a proven ability to work under pressure and remain calm intense situations with both internal and external members.
  • Ability to work independently as well as demonstrated ability to work and thrive in a team environment, in addition to a willingness to assist others.
  • Strong problem resolution and assertive communication skills in effectively dealing with external vendors, leaders, and internal owners.
  • The incumbent must be a persuasive communicator with excellent command of verbal and written presentations. Clear communication with internal and external customers through verbal and written correspondence is required along with the ability to effectively develop and motivate people in one-on-one and in small group situations is essential.
  • Proven ability and maturity to handle information in a professional manner is required.
  • Must be a high energy person who is self-motivated, and self-motivated and results oriented and able to work in a fast paced deadline driven environment.
  • Possess excellent mathematical skills and demonstrate ability to be accurate and attentive to detail.
  • Must be technologically savvy especially as it relates to self-service options and keeps abreast of evolving consumer needs and trends.
  • Must adapt well to new or non-traditional environments and display a commitment to the community, to increasing member engagement and to Northern’s objectives.
  • Proficiency with a PC and PC software, demonstrated knowledge of and proficiency with MS Office Suite, Outlook, and various internet browser environments required.

Physical Activites and Requirements of this Position:

  • Mental Activities and Requirements of this Postion:
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data,establish facts, and draw conclusions.
  • Able to interpret a variety of technical instructions and deal with multiple variables.
  • Mathematics Ability: Able to perform very simple algebra.
  • Language Ability: Ability to read periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias.
  • Ability to prepare business letters, proposals, summaries, and reports using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style.
  • Ability to conduct training, communicate at panel discussions, and make professional presentations.

Compensation:

The base pay range for this position is $22.88 - $30.03 per hour. Exact offers will be determined based on job related knowledge, skills, and experience.
