Position Summary:

The Community Engagement Specialist is member of the Training Institute. The job of the Community Engagement Specialist is to be responsive to requests for training from the public and to coordinate training agendas that are responsive to the interests of House of Ruth Maryland staff and training audiences. The Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for providing trainings on the dynamics of intimate partner violence, House of Ruth Maryland services, and other basic concepts related to ending intimate partner violence and supporting healthy relationships. This position is part of the agency’s Community Engagement Team carrying out the agenda for the intimate partner violence education and prevention initiatives.
Standard Schedule: Standard hours for this position are Monday- Friday, starting between 8:00am-10:00am and finishing between 4:00pm-6:00pm with flexibility up to 30% of the time to attend to critical work activities occurring in the evening or weekend (resource fairs and events, presentations, meeting with participants with schedule conflicts, etc.). This position is based on-site at House of Ruth Maryland’s Community Engagement Center, with a “drop-in” office at the Highlandtown location. Local travel around the Baltimore Metropolitan area encompasses up to 50% of the position.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Educate community members and other professionals about the dynamics of intimate partner violence and services offered by the agency.
  • Identify and engage with agencies and organizations that interact with underserved populations. Notify agencies of programming and services available to survivors to facilitate partnerships to serve victims and survivors better.
  • Respond to community training requests in a timely and professional manner; participate in community engagement activities that strengthen strategic relationships and increase the awareness of House of Ruth Maryland and its services.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify audience needs prior to planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating curricula and presentations.
  • Coordinate and attend all meetings, activities and events required for projects.
  • Maintain an accurate record keeping system to facilitate the functioning of the Training Institute including records of services provided to the community. This includes the timely entering of information into the agency database.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with community agencies and organizations.
  • Represent House of Ruth Maryland at community events (ex: health fairs, resource fairs).
  • Organize or lead special projects or partnerships as assigned.
  • Perform administrative tasks of program.
  • Provide oversight and administrative support for HRM Storyteller’s Graduates including meeting coordination, event booking, and promotional support.
  • Participate in Training Institute, Community Engagement Team, external collaborative meetings, and site-specific meetings as applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned.
