While coordinating with Camp Counselors, Camp Volunteers, and Camp leadership, educators are responsible to plan daily schedules, lead educational activities, and manage the group and classroom environment.   Responsibilities: Lead hands-on informal science activities for campers  Topics including nature discovery, tinkering, space, and animal behavior/care  Facilitate curriculum written by year-round staff for 3 – 4 hours of each camp day  Lead informal group games, songs, and skits  Act as point of contact between caretakers, Site Directors, and full-time Museum staff  Provide caretakers appropriate feedback at camper pick-up and drop-off to ensure successful camp experience.  Maintain accurate and timely program records such as camper documentation and daily program summaries.   Work closely with Site Directors, Camp Counselors, volunteers, and year-round Museum staff to maintain safety and well-being for up to 18 campers at a time  Demonstrate compassion and empathy while utilizing positive behavior techniques to ensure campers with diverse needs and backgrounds follow safety and community guidelines  Traveling to and from the camp space and other campus locations  Oversee safe and efficient trips to and from bathrooms  Communicate issues to camp leadership and team in a timely manner  Be aware of and implement Museum policies  General classroom and materials management  Design and scheduling of individual camp activities  Set up activities and clean up the classroom before and after the camp day  Monitor classroom supplies and request replenishments when needed  Evaluate program for feasibility and effectiveness & communicate issues to camp staff and curriculum writers  Attend scheduled staff meetings and trainings  Facilitate daily team meetings with Counselors to outline the day’s activities, discuss group management plans, address emergent issues  Trainings  Virtual Trainings – 1 weekday a week from April- early May  General Camp Orientation – May 18th – 19th   Topics Trainings – June 1st – 2nd   Camp Curiosity Orientation - June 15th  Review written training materials   Mid-Summer evaluation materials  Represent the museum in a professional manner during interactions and while out on the Museum floor.  Additional job-related duties as assigned     Actual pay Rate: $16.00/hour   Position Requirements Qualifications: 2+ years' experience or study in education, science, or related field   Previous experience teaching in a formal or informal education or camp setting  Motivation and desire to encourage and model critical thinking and scientific discovery  Experience developing fun, informal group games and activities for groups of up to 18 campers   Focus on physical and emotional safety and well-being   Excellent communication skills  Ability to work well with others   Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure with a positive attitude and creative problem-solving skills  Ability to spend the day actively engaging the campers following pre-written outlines  Availability to work a minimum of 5 weeks of summer consisting of 11 weeks between June 3 – August 16  Must be able to be on their feet for up to 6 hours at a time, covering distances of up to one mile over varying terrains, be able to lift 25 pounds  Ability to work outside in heat and humidity; some camps occur in an outdoor classroom and all camps spend time outdoors.   Complete COVID-19 Vaccination (Johnson and Johnson, Moderna, or Pfizer) or exemption.    Desired: Bi-lingual Proficiency   Demonstrated interest and background in natural sciences and/or technology  Experience working with youth from different backgrounds and abilities    For technology-based camps:  Programming in JavaScript  Game Modding  Robotics building and programming including LEGO Robotics platforms    Important Note . . . Camp Staff do not have to work the entire summer schedule, but will be asked to work a minimum of 5 weeks. Applicants will be asked to detail their summer availability during the interview process, and preference will be given to those able to work more weeks.
