JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the NRHT Manager or designated supervisor, perform day to day management and restoration of the district’s natural areas. This position requires 90% field work in the out-of-doors.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in a wide variety of manual labor activities.
  • Valid driver's license is required with the ability to drive a truck and trailer, preferred.
  • Ability to carry 50 lbs. for 25 yards.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • A reasonable mechanical aptitude and interest in machinery and equipment used to maintain parks and natural areas.
  • Able and prepared to work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to understand and follow both oral and written directions.
  • Ability to use assorted hand tools such as, but not limited to, shovels, rakes, hand saws, pruners, etc.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Ability to properly identify native and invasive woody and herbaceous species in natural areas

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Planting trees, shrubs, and plugs; installing seed
  • Mowing, edging, and trimming trails
  • Able and prepared to work in all weather conditions
  • Work special events as directed
  • Litter collection and removal
  • Watering and weeding gardens
  • Complete and submit daily reports as directed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
  • Abide by the Bolingbrook Park District dress code for your area
  • Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Park District’s safety program.
  • Work as a Team Player with co-workers and in conjunction with other departments.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Walking: to pick up trash; mow and/or trim grass

Standing: to watch over prescribed burns

Sitting: to drive or ride in a vehicle; or while mowing grass

Lifting: to lift and carry 50 lbs. for 25 yards while loading materials onto truck

Climbing: to climb ladder while trimming trees

Pulling: to remove weeds; to rake leaves or fields; to open doors

Pushing: to mow grass; to close doors

Stooping: to pick up litter

Seeing: to drive a vehicle or lawn mower; to obtain information from written materials

 

  • May be exposed to all types of weather conditions
  • May be exposed to poison ivy and biting or stinging insects

 

COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS

Must have the ability to read and write in English and organize materials. Ability to drive a vehicle and lawn mowing equipment. Must be able to relate to other people in a professional manner.

FLSA

This is a part time hourly, seasonal position.

HOURS

Seasonal laborers are limited to 17 weeks a year and generally work during the landscaping season (May - August).

Work hours are Monday - Friday, 6:30am - 3:00pm

NOTE: Daily work hours can change with little or no notice to accommodate the necessary workload the park district requires.
