REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: SOUS CHEF LOCATION: RESORT DIVISION

General Responsibilities

Assist in the food preparation and service of all menu items as specified through recipes, pictures, and additional instructions by the chef. Perform flawless quality production and service to exceed guest’s expectations consistently.

DUTIES:

  1. Work in different kitchens to gain knowledge of the preparation of food.
  2. Once the Culinary Academy is in place, successful completion will be required within 1 year.
  3. Maintain clean and safe working environment, keep your work area neat, clean, sanitized, and stocked of needed products & supplies.
  4. Maintain a high standard for personal hygiene and sanitation.
  5. Strive to perform duties in all positions within the kitchen.
  6. Perform opening and closing duties and side work as assigned.
  7. Volunteer to assist other team members as needed.
  8. Learn to operate and clean all equipment used in the department safely.
  9. Maintain a courteous and helpful relationship with internal and external guests.
  10. Perform duties quickly and efficiently.
  11. Perform cleaning of coolers, freezers, and other storage areas as assigned.
  12. Assist in storing and rotating all inventories as needed (FIFO).
  13. Be knowledgeable of the facility, as location of restrooms and telephones, hours of operation, etc. and be able to efficiently handle guest inquiries.
  14. Understand the goals and vision of the organization and demonstrate commitment to those goals in terms of individual and team performance.
  15. Participate in scheduled training and random testing for evaluation and coaching purposes.
  16. Based on business needs, may be required to work at other venues as assigned.
  17. Must maintain compliance with all workplace policies, procedures, ordinances, laws, and other communicated expectations, including but not limited to: Employment Manual, Gaming Ordinance, State Gaming Compact, Tribal Internal Controls, Departmental Procedures, memos, or other communication from supervisory or regulatory personnel.

The duties and responsibilities will be subject to change based upon organizational needs and/or deemed necessary by the department manager.

Position Requirements

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

All employees of North Star Mohican Casino Resort must meet the following qualifications.

  1. Must submit to court records search/background review.
  2. Must submit and pass a pre-employment drug screening and health screening.
  3. Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record.
  4. Must be able to work with a variety of people with diverse personalities.
  5. Must be willing to enhance self-development and attend all required training.
  6. Must adhere to the Casino’s Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy during employment.
  7. Must be reliable and prompt when reporting to work.
  8. Must wear the approved departmental uniform.
  9. Must be able to work weekends, late nights, and holidays.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High School Diploma or GED is preferred. High School Diploma or GED is required if you are 19 years old and under.
  2. Position is part- time/flex for minors aged 16-17, they must be enrolled in school and working towards a high school diploma.

Qualifications

  1. Minimum of one-year culinary experience preferred, Serve Safe Food Handlers certification within 3 months.
  2. Basic knowledge of understanding fryers (oils and their temperatures), grill simple meats (hamburgers-hot dogs), basic oven uses (bake chicken, fish).
  3. Demonstrate basic knife skills and culinary knowledge.
  4. Demonstrate basic product knowledge (vegetable-fruit-and meat identification)
  5. Knowledge of understanding basic salad construction and cold food preparation.
  6. Ability to understand and perform job assignments.
  7. Ability to understand and follow recipes and other directions.
  8. Strive to work independently with reasonable supervision.
  9. Maintain a positive attitude towards each guest and fellow employee and participate in a strong team effort.
  10. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and management.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  1. Must possess the ability to be mobile 100% of the shift, which includes prolonged periods of being on your feet.
  2. Required to frequently stand, walk, talk, and hear. Also required to use hands/fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; reach with hands and arms; along with the ability to lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds on a frequent basis.
  3. Required vision abilities to perform this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception along with the ability to read tickets and adjust focus.
  4. Must be able to work in an area that is both unusually hot and cold, with a moderate to higher-than-normal noise level.
  5. Work environment requires excellent personal hygiene, due to working near others.
  6. Work environment is NOT smoke, noise or dust free.
