JOB SUMMARY: The Registered Nurse demonstrates performance consistent with professional standards of practice, care, performance, the Nurse Practice Act and the mission and goals of the organization. Manages patient care in the health care continuum to achieve optimum outcomes in a safe and cost-effective manner. Demonstrates skills in collaboration, delegation, negotiation and management of resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:

JOB SPECIFIC CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • The Staff RN will assist in documentation, providing supplies, prepping patient for surgery.
  • The Staff RN oversees CST's and Surgery Tech's and provides and documents care consistent with hospital, departmental, and unit policies/procedures/protocols.
  • The Staff RN honors individuals’ right to privacy, dignity, respect, and confidentiality at all times.
  • The Staff RN collaborates with other members of the health team regarding patient care needs and responsibilities, and delegates, as appropriate.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and technical skill necessary for providing competent, comprehensive patient care.
  • Demonstrates leadership abilities including ability to give and follow instructions accurately.

  • Demonstrates ability to teach/instruct patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Clinical Practice: Implements the nursing process with all patients to whom assigned according to network standards, policy and procedure. Provides safe patient centered, compassionate, competent care utilizing nursing process, founded in science, within the scope of practice for the Registered Nurse. Models professional nursing ethical practice. Demonstrates application of all facets of the nursing process: Nursing Assessment, Care Planning, Discharge Planning, Care Coordination, Delegation, and Evaluation of effectiveness of care.
  • Department/unit Accountabilities: Provides Leadership for Patient Care Teams and Processes.
  • Education/ Training: Provides Patient and Family Education by Facilitating Learning.
  • Communication: Communicates and Collaborates effectively.
  • Critical Thinking: Exhibits clinical judgment and critical thinking.
  • Collaboration: Collaborates with physician regarding patient needs. Collaborates with care team members to accomplish patient needs and meet care standards.

Position Requirements

MANDATORY LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:

CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation)
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: Registered Nurse (RN)

ADDITIONAL LECENSURE/CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • CNOR preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current license as a registered nurse with the State of Indiana Health Professions Bureau

ADDITIONAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Mandatory Continuing Education: Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Corporate Compliance (including Confidentiality), Infection Control, and education required by regulatory, accreditation bodies, scope of practice, and/or Hancock Regional Hospital.

  • Participates in Basic Life Support training per American Heart Association or American Red Cross standards.
