Job Title: Marketing and Communications Coordinator

Reports to Title: Managing Editor

Location: United States, Chicago or remote

Date: March 25, 2024

Compensation: Grade: 2 Salary Range: $50,000 - $62,500 (non-exempt)

 

Job Summary:

This role provides crucial support across all aspects of the communications team with an emphasis on project coordination, email marketing, digital communications and editorial support, and team-wide coordination.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Editorial, Marketing and Digital Communications Support

  • Assist Editorial Lead by periodically writing and editing blogs and other editorial content, ensuring consistency in messaging and branding, and assisting with maintenance of blog and newsroom on website.
  • Maintain and update the GFN photo and video libraries; manage all requests for photos; write and edit photo captions; liaise with photographers, manage vendor relationships, and arrange for capture of new images of GFN partner work.
  • Manage GFN’s distribution lists, including Salesforce Account Engagement (formerly Pardot/Marketing Cloud), food bank contacts and websites, etc.
  • Lead creation and scheduling of monthly Voices of Food Banking newsletter and support Communications and Development colleagues with email marketing campaigns, donor journeys, lead generation campaigns, and additional organizational emails as needed.
  • Assist with digital marketing, including sending emails via Salesforce Account Engagement, as well as gathering and presenting quarterly analytics.
  • Assist with social media creation, editing, and scheduling.
  • Set up paid campaigns for channels like LinkedIn and Facebook as needed.
  • Update GFN webpages (Atlas, employee engagement, and others) as needed.
  • Provide collateral development support for all departments using branded templates for events, PowerPoints, and emails.

 

Communications Project Coordination and Team Support

  • Maintain project management systems and processes across the department, tracking progress to completion and ensuring collaboration, organization, adherence to deadlines, and transparency.
  • Monitor and respond to external inquiries to GFN to ensure timely response.
  • Liaise regularly with Programs and Development teams to keep updated about activities and manage communications requests.
  • Maintain process for submitting team invoices to Finance and assist VP with budget tracking.
  • Organize and maintain Communications team’s shared file system.
  • Schedule team meetings, circulate agendas, take notes, and provide related support to the Communications team as necessary.
  • Support VP, Marketing and Communications in execution and tracking of engagement and outreach activities.
  • Perform other Communications duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or related field, or equivalent education and/or relevant lived experience that demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Experience working cross-culturally. Experience working or living in emerging and developing countries is a plus.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong writing and editing skills and experience with project coordination.
  • Demonstrates initiative to take on new tasks and willingness to pitch in wherever needed.
  • Highly organized, superior time management skills, able to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work proactively, think creatively, work collaboratively with a team, and problem solve independently as needed.
  • Ability to multitask, juggle competing priorities, and remain calm under pressure.
  • Understanding of fundamental communications and marketing concepts, strategies, and tactics.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and ability to adapt to new technological tools.
  • Knowledge and experience with Google Analytics, Sprout Social, Muck Rack, Pardot, and/or Salesforce is a plus.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English; Spanish language proficiency welcomed.
