SUMMARY:

Primary function of this position is to maximize efficiency of the rolling assets of the company to include tractors and trailers. The Route Designer will work under the direction of the assigned Manager/Supervisor to maintain and improve utilization, update and implement systems, and drive efficiency in the transportation network efficiently and effectively. The position requires professional communications, computer, and presentation skills. Position represents the company in a positive image with employees, customers and the community always performing in a safe and ethical manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Responsible for coordinating and directing activities to provide managers and customers with logistics technology to ensure economical and effective support for Transportation and Warehouse Systems services.
  • Lead supply chain improvement projects focused on improving all areas of our logistics operations, strategic initiatives, and/or space and capacity planning.
  • Performs operational analysis, process improvement, capacity planning and project management. Responsible for the daily accurate tracking of company switcher tractors, trucks,

and trailers by location.

  • Responsible for the efficient entry of into the company systems including 1MW /JIM, and efficiently extracting data for reporting
  • Mine operational data to develop solutions and identify opportunities.
  • Provide reports as required including but not limited to:
    • Empty Miles by domicile (including)
    • Miles by route, including OTR network
    • Utilization by pickup/delivery
    • Cross dock utilization
    • Planned versus actual freight detail, trends
    • Cost reporting to include fuel, maintenance, and revenue
    • Driver utilization to include mileage and payroll detail
  • Responsible for identifying revenue potential, and developing action plans to address
  • Translate customer demand information into route requirements, and design efficient networks
  • Correspond with Business Development team to meet customer requests regarding new business development transportation requirements
  • Drive continuous improvement of the assigned responsibilities and operational utilization of TMW/IIM.
  • Assist with movement of equipment for new locations.
  • Required to adhere to all BLS policies, procedures, DOT and OSHA safety rules and regulations. Strict adherence to C-TPAT best practices
  • Follows all workplace processes and standards in support of the ISO-9001:2015, ISO 1400 I :2015, and OHSAS 18000:2007
  • Required to attend and complete all assigned company training
  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position may have supervisory responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree is required; Bachelor Degree in management, transportation, mathematics, or a related field is preferred. At least five years’ experience in logistics/transportation is preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED Must possess strong interpersonal skills. Must demonstrate good communication skills both written and oral. Must be able to manage multiple tasks and projects. Must possess excellent personal computer skills and having working knowledge of Microsoft Office products software i.e.; Word, and Outlook. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel. Knowledge of Transportation Management Systems and Customer Service highly preferred. Experience in DOT regulations and compliance, as well as Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must have ability to write routine reports and correspondence and to communicate effectively using the telephone, Fax, E-mail etc. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Current driver's license.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be located at the customer's site and routinely be exposed to outside weather conditions.
