The Position:

The Decision Support and Data Analytics (DS&DA) team is looking for an experienced Data Scientist with strong knowledge of statistical modelling, mathematical programming, and simulation modelling to deliver actionable insights and enable clinical and business operational efficiencies. The Data Scientist will support DS&DA projects by providing expertise in predictive and prescriptive model development, forecasting, and statistical inference of the developed models. They will actively produce models that help describe and predict patterns, clinical and business outcomes and identify recommended courses of action under a variety of possible future scenarios.

With the launch of our new HB2030 strategic plan the IMT DS&DA team plays a critical role in the implementation of the new strategic plan through support of data-driven strategic initiatives. This role will be key in supporting the strategy through the development of new advanced prescriptive and predictive models to support decision making. This role can support a hybrid work schedule (a combination of work on-site and remote work).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Analysis and Interpretation: Analyze large and complex datasets to extract meaningful insights and patterns. Use statistical and machine learning techniques to interpret data and provide actionable recommendations. Develop models and algorithms to predict future trends and outcomes based on historical data.
  • Model Development and Deployment: Build, test, and refine predictive models using machine learning algorithms. Implement and deploy models into production systems for real-time decision-making.
  • Visualization & Dashboarding: Communicate complex findings and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders by creating visualizations, dashboards to present data-driven insights.
  • Manage Data Science platform: Maintain and improve existing data science infrastructure by integrating new features and capabilities and managing the environments.
  • Continuous Learning and Improvement: Continuously improve models and methodologies based on feedback and changing business needs. Experiment with new tools, techniques, and frameworks to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of data science processes.
  • Data Privacy: Ensure privacy and security standards are adhered as per hospital policy and guidelines.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with DS&DA data analysts to understand the datasets, analyze business problems and develop and integrate models into existing analytics solutions.
  • Data Literacy: Educate staff on opportunities to leverage decision support and data analytics tools and reporting to improve financial, strategic, clinical and operational performance.
  • Coaching: Coaches the team on managing and maintaining the models in the production environment

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, or Mathematics required
  • Proven experience as a Data Scientist, preferably in healthcare industry, with successful project delivery
  • 5+ years of experience specifically in statistical/data analysis and data mining, predictive modeling, machine learning models, forecasting algorithms working with time-series data.
  • Experience working with statistical tools such as SPSS Modeler (preferred) or other statistical tools such as Python.
  • Effectively communicate complex ideas and tell stories using data visualization in enterprise Business Intelligence tools like Cognos BI (preferred)
  • Experience building and maintaining robust and scalable machine learning models, large language models (LLMs) and advanced analytics.
  • Experience working with hospital clinical and administrative databases is preferred
