GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The United Church of Christ, Church Building and Loan Fund (CB&LF) is dedicated to assisting new local congregations with the purchase of their first building. This is accomplished in partnership with the congregation and the Conference. In conducting its mission and ministry it seeks to develop mature and vital, multicultural, multiracial, accessible to all, justice oriented UCC congregations from young or renewing churches.

 

The general purpose of this position is to assist in the areas of loan and finance under the guidance of the Senior Loan Administrator and Controller including but not limited to providing support for maintaining the service of new loans on mortgage accounting software for the life of the loan, assist with data preparation for audits and processing invoices, expense forms and requests for payments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Loans:

  • Good working knowledge of, and previous experience in mortgage banking and loan servicing procedures.
  • Maintain servicing of new loans on mortgage accounting software for the life of loan (posting payments, disbursements, and managing the process for updating account records.
  • Tracks security documents (follow-up to assure all original documents [promissory note, deed of trust, final ALTA policy, hazard insurance] are received).
  • Have a clear understanding of the nuances of church building loans (vs loans by traditional banks and other lenders); the products and services tailored to church borrowers, and the needs, challenges, and opportunities in the field of church-owned real estate.

Finance:

  • Familiarity with basic accounting principles.
  • Receiving and processing all invoices, expense forms and request for payments.
  • Post cash receipts activities to ensure integrity of controls and timely and accurate completion of reconciliations.
  • Assist with data preparation required by independent auditors.
  • Ability to relate and clearly communicate with operating management, financial staff and other departments.
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business; in lieu of a degree, experience in mortgage banking and loan servicing procedures.
  • Good working knowledge of, and previous experience in mortgage banking and loan servicing procedures.
  • A clear understanding of the nuances of church building loans (vs loans by traditional banks and other lenders); the products and services tailored to church borrowers, and the needs, challenges, and opportunities in the field of church-owned real estate.
  • Knowledge of housing, economic/community development financing; familiarity with such loans that may have multiple sources of debt and equity possibly including church loan funds, tax credits, public and private grant subsidies, with experience in closing such loans.
  • Strong work ethic exhibiting a sense of urgency in completion of tasks and willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Self-starter with ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize workload and remain motivated and positive. Well organized and detail-oriented, and exceptional time management.
  • Willingness to take appropriate initiative for the effective operation of the Fund;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills paired with Excellent proofreading and editing skills.
  • Ability to perform within a collaborative team-oriented office;
  • Extensive experience and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe, Loan Processing software and Web-based programs.
  • Commitment and sensitivity to the variety of local church traditions and cultural and ethnic backgrounds represented in the United Church of Christ.
  • Clear understanding of the need for confidentiality.
  • Assists Staff in performing other servicing related duties as requested and assigned.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the Church, with a knowledge of, or a willingness to learn about the history and polity of the United Church of Christ and of the history, purpose, and programs of Church Building & Loan Fund
  • Desire and sensitivity to work in diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and religious settings with commitment to diversity in the workplace as well as an understanding of mission.

This position is Cleveland-based and requires a minimum of 3 days in office work on a hybrid schedule.
