Position Summary

Under the direction of the Laboratory Manager, the Lab Tech II’s main task is to perform laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical properties of designated products or materials for such purposes as quality control on raw or bulk materials, process goods, and finished products by performing the following duties:

Job Responsibilities

Besides the job responsibilities for Lab Tech I, here are more job responsibilities for Lab Tech II but are not limited to.

  • Required to be proficient on two or more of the major pieces of Analytical equipment. (GC, FTIR, UV-Vis, ICP-OES, Raman Spectrometer, IC, sulfur analyzer, nitrogen analyzer, water separability (ASTM D1401), copper corrosion, and Auto-Titrators).
  • Lean in troubleshooting instruments, preventive maintenance, and inventory needs.
  • Learn more about how to use LIMS, such as search a tested sample, make corrections for a test results, and more.
  • Coaching Lab Tech I and Interns.
  • Exhibits and practices the Third Coast Way fundamental behaviors

Knowledge and Skills:

  • High School Graduate or GED REQUIRED
  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, (or meet a 2 year minimum of Laboratory work experience).

Work Experience:

  • 2 to 3 years of related laboratory experience and/or training.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as Safety rules, standard operating procedures, and industry methods (English). Ability to write routine reports and speak effectively before groups of team members (English).
  • Ability to do mathematics related to laboratory methodology calculations, including a scientific calculator.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements

  • The physical demands required are to sit, stand, talk, and hear, smell, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift items.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the team member works near moving mechanical parts exposed to fumes, and other chemicals which will require specific PPE and safety precautions.
