All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status or any other characteristic protected by law.   Description WORK OBJECTIVE Under general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor and Camp Coordinator, will create, lead and implement activities for school aged children grades Kindergarten through eighth grade in the Day Camp program.   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The list of essential functions is intended to be representative of the work performed. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed if such duties are a logical assignment to the position.   Must be an energetic, safety conscious role model to school age children. Program & lead activities and projects in a variety of areas including music, sports, crafts and outdoor games. Must instruct groups of children in age-appropriate activities. Create lesson plans; prepare materials and plan activities, games and projects. Supervise campers, ensuring constant safety and program quality. Participate actively with fellow staff and children in program.   MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must maintain current Red Cross CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications (training provided). Be at least 16 years of age. Comfortable working with children between the ages of 5 to 14. Successfully pass the FDLE and Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse process. Affirm the ability to meet moral character requirements related to disqualifying offenses, as required by Florida Statue.   Exceptions to the minimum qualifications must be reviewed by the Human Resources Director and approved by the City Manager prior to job offer.   KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of games, sports and activities for children. Knowledge of teaching/leading groups of children. Ability to communicate effectively, speak in front of large groups, and lead activities. Ability to work well, be flexible, and provide support to all other camp staff. Ability to maintain proper records and lesson plans for the duration of the summer. Ability to understand and follow verbal and basic written instructions. Ability to work in all weather conditions.   PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS Tasks involving the intermittent performance of physically demanding work involving reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, running, swimming, or crouching. Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (25 – 50 lbs.).
