Bolton & Menk is in search of a Senior Cultural Resources Specialist to join our Environmental Planning team.  For over 70 years Bolton & Menk, Inc. has served public and private clients with comprehensive planning, design and construction engineering and surveying services. What You Will Be Doing:

  • Responsible for conducting & leading field staff on archaeological surveys, excavation and reporting including:
    • Site recording and evaluations
    • Archaeological testing and data recovery
    • Provides project management support to Professional Engineers and Project Managers for services related to cultural resource surveys
  • Responsible for cultural resources construction monitoring
    • Coordinating with construction and subcontractor staff
    • Ability to work longer days (10 – 12 hours)
    • Soils and features recording
    • Faunal and osteological identification
    • Report writing and production
  • Assists project managers in preparing scopes of work and budgets for cultural resources related tasks.
  • Analyzes and documents prehistoric, and historic sites and artifacts.
  • Coordinates, communicates, and maintains a strong working relationship with Office of the State Archaeologists (OSA), State Preservation Office (SHPO), Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Tribal Historic Preservation Offices, and other agencies.
  • Leads negotiations with federal and state agencies regarding cultural or environmental impact and mitigation strategies.
  • May assist with other duties associated with cultural resources management, environmental review documents and planning.
  • Travel periodically to work site and other project related locations.

What We are Looking For:

  • Knowledgeable of Midwest (Minnesota preferred) prehistory, diagnostic artifacts, and history. Experience in ND, SD, NC or SC a plus but not required.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience as a principal investigator.
  • Understands & follows Federal Regulations, Laws and Executive Orders pertaining to environmental review.
  • Ability to read and interpret USGS topographic maps and aerial photos.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and your own transportation. You will be reimbursed for business-related travel.
