GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will provide support to the Teacher in preparing the learning environment and teaching young children in accordance with Head Start performance standards. Is responsible for Operating the Head Start bus or van to transport children according to standards established by the Head Start Program.

This is a non-exempt position at 40 hours/week for 42 weeks/year (negotiable). Continuation of position is contingent upon funding allocations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

  1. Build an understanding of the Head Start program by communicating its philosophy, mission, and services to staff, families, and the community.
  2. Classroom
  1. Assists the teacher in implementing the program for the classroom in accordance with Head Start performance standards, Wisconsin licensing regulations, and post programming.
  2. Assists in setting up equipment and learning environment for each day.
  3. Assist in daily classroom clean-up to include daily mopping, cleaning of restrooms, sanitizing and laundry.
  1. Operate Head Start bus or van to transport children according to standards established by the Head Start Program.
  1. Maintain and observe all safety standards with regards to the vehicle and the conduct of the children entering, riding, and exiting the bus.
  2. Maintain accurate daily mileage reports, file monthly reports as directed and required. Perform a daily safety inspection of the vehicle operation systems and report necessary repairs, breakdowns and/or adjustments to the Manager.
  3. Report delays for accidents, poor road conditions, passenger and mechanical emergencies as needed/required.
  1. Attends and participates in all pre-service and in-service training.
  2. Maintain and observe all safety standards with regards to riding in the bus and the conduct of the children entering, riding, and exiting the bus.
  3. Assist in daily classroom maintenance and clean-up to include daily mopping, cleaning of restrooms and laundry.
  4. Support the Head Start program in providing high-quality services to children and families by complying with applicable federal, state, and program requirements; following established procedures and implementing schedules and routines.
  5. Must make prudent use of resources by monitoring consumption, minimizing waste, and offering suggestions for improving program efficiency.
  6. Practice excellent customer service skills at all times to include, but not limited to, addressing customer and employee needs courteously and promptly.
  7. Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record.
  8. Must be reliable and prompt when reporting to work.
  9. Required to attend job related, in-service, meetings, and training to maintain professional and technical knowledge.
  10. Must adhere to tribal law and other applicable laws as well as tribal personnel policies and procedures.
  11. May be required to satisfactorily complete an exam or other testing requirement(s) to determine skill proficiency.

The duties and responsibilities will be subject to change based on organizational needs and/or deemed necessary by the supervisor

 

 

 
Position Requirements

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

All employees of Stockbridge Munsee Community must meet the following qualification:

1. Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and health screening.

2. Must be at least 21 years of age

3. Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record

4. Must be able to work weekends, nights and holidays

5. Must obtain and maintain Elder/Youth License

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High School Diploma, HSED Diploma or GED Certification is required. Applicants age 50 and older are exempt from this requirement. (MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF DIPLOMA OR CERTIFICATION TO COMPLETE THIS APPLICATION)
  2. Must be able to complete the six tasks (Valid Driver’s License, Endorsements (Learners Permit/CDL temps), Fed Med Card (DOT Physical), DOT Drug Test, and two CDL online theory courses) within 60 days of employment to be eligible to start the next scheduled Behind the Wheel course to obtain and then maintain a Commercial Driver License (C.D.L.) with a P and S endorsement.
  3. Must have or be willing to enroll into a Child Development Associate (CDA) program within 30 days of employment with successful attainment of the certificate in two consecutive semesters.
  4. Must be mature and able to maintain strict standards of order and safety with children.
  5. Excellent customer/client relation skills are required. This will require the individual to be able to deal with the general public and Tribal employees with tact, courtesy, respect, objectivity, and maturity.
  6. Help the Head Start program achieve its goals by staying informed of pertinent day-to-day activities and adjusting own work accordingly.
  7. Advance program practice by promoting a positive working environment and working collaboratively with other staff to understand and support the adoption of best practices for children, families, and staff.
  8. Must be dependable, able to follow directions and work independently with minimal supervision.
  9. Must complete certification on reporting Child Abuse and Neglect is required within (90) days of employment.
  10. Current First Aid and CPR certifications or willingness to obtain these certifications within (30) days of date of employment is required. Must maintain CPR and Red Cross First Aide Certification during employment.
  11. Knowledge of auto mechanics relevant to school bus maintenance and operation is preferred.
  12. Must adhere to strict confidentiality in all matters. (Must sign a confidentiality statement prior to start of employment.)
  13. Must be willing and able to obtain additional education and training.
  14. Must pass a pre-employment drug and health screening. Must adhere to the Tribe’s Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy during the course of employment. A Tuberculosis (TB) screening and/or TB Skin Test is required prior to employment and annually thereafter.
  15. Must provide written documentation from a doctor that a physical examination was performed within (30) days of employment and annually thereafter.
  16. Must maintain coverage under the Stockbridge-Munsee Community’s Employee’s Dishonesty Policy prior to and during the course of employment with Stockbridge-Munsee Community.
  17. Must submit and pass a background security check to meet the Employment Eligibility Requirements as it pertains to the position and the location of the department prior to and during the course of employment with the Stockbridge-Munsee Community. This includes obtaining an elder/youth license.
  18. A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance are required. Must obtain a Wisconsin driver’s license within thirty (30) days of employment if applicant has an out-of-state driver’s license. Must be authorized as eligible to operate a personal and tribal vehicle under the Stockbridge-Munsee Community Vehicle Drivers Policy prior to actual start date. Must maintain driver’s eligibility as a condition of employment.
  19. Must pass pre-employment drug and health screening. Must be eligible for coverage under the employer’s liability insurance.
  20. Must have demonstrated ability to maintain satisfactory working record in any prior or current employment.
  21. Must be able to meet physical requirements of position.
  22. Must abide by departmental and organizational safety, testing, and uniform guidelines.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Frequently sit, bend/stoop, squat, carry and lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds; occasionally stand, walk, crouch, kneel, balance, and push and pull.
  2. Must be able to use both hands for repetitive movements, simple and firm grasping.
  3. Must provide written documentation from a doctor that a physical examination or a current Fed Med Card (DOT Physical) was performed within (30) days of employment and annually thereafter.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Frequently sit, bend/stoop, squat, carry and lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds; occasionally stand, walk, crouch, kneel, balance, and push and pull.
  2. Must be able to use both hands for repetitive movements, simple and firm grasping.
  3. Must provide written documentation from a doctor that a physical examination was performed within (30) days of employment and annually thereafter.
