Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory (SHC) is a Lasallian Vincentian Catholic, co-educational college preparatory secondary school located in the heart of San Francisco, California. We provide academically rigorous, vibrant learning grounded in social justice and student centered pedagogy. Our entire community is committed to cultivating each student's unique talents and passions, providing myriad opportunities for students to discern and realize their individual intellectual, artistic, athletic, social, and spiritual potential. SHC is a San Francisco Archdiocesan High School that is cosponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, District of San Francisco New Orleans and the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, Province of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.

POSITION TITLE: Assistant Librarian
SUPERVISED BY: Principal
FLSA STATUS: 80% FTE
EFFECTIVE DATE: Feb 15, 2024
COMPENSATION: $25.00-$30.00 per hour

Position Summary
This is a 4/5th (80% FTE) position, facilitating students and faculty use of SHC’s library resources. Among other duties, this candidate will be responsible for staffing the library each afternoon, and closing the library at 5:00PM on most days.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Model for students the characteristics of a Lasallian Vincentian Catholic educator;

  • Promote SHC’s mission, philosophy and Integral Student Outcomes;

  • Design and implement instruction in collaboration with Library Director and other SHC faculty;

  • Collaborate with Director of Library Services to plan, measure, and creatively meet Library benchmarks;

  • Assist with maintaining and guiding access to print and electronic resources, including book processing & cataloging, inventory, subscription databases, e-books, and research guides, both on and off campus;

  • Provide research and technology support to students and teachers during open periods;

  • Maintain a welcoming active environment and scholarly atmosphere in the Library;

  • Actively participate in SHC’s strategic initiatives to strengthen meaningful diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging practices, especially strategies to support equitable learning, culturally responsive teaching, social emotional learning, and universal design for learning;

  • Strengthen the mission of SHC and the charisms of the Daughters of Charity and De La Salle Christian Brothers and Department of Catholic Schools through their formational programs.

  • This is an on campus position, Remote work is not available.

 
Position Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Experience with Microsoft software applications, Google Apps for Education, and library catalog and database management.

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a secondary or middle school;

  • A high level of initiative and follow through with the ability to work independently;

  • Strong organizational and project management skills;

  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks concurrently;

  • A service-oriented mindset with excellent communication skills, both written and oral;

  • Self-motivation, with an optimistic, positive attitude;

  • Attention to detail and organization in all aspects of work;

  • Ability to work collaboratively and proactively in a highly dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Certifications and/or Licensure
None; teaching credential preferred.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree; Master's Degree in MLS or MLIS preferred (in-progress acceptable)

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft software applications, Google Suite; databases (such as a learning management system) and internet usage.
