Assignments: Under the supervision of the Head Counselor, a Counselor is responsible for assisted supervision of children assigned to group, and help to maintain a 1:6 ratio, while providing a safe and fun environment. A range of skills in the following areas are expected: active listening, energetic, hands-on, participatory, and active, sports, games, small and large group activities, arts and crafts.
Qualifications - Minimum age: 16 yrs old at time of employment
Current CPR/FIRST AID/AED certificates by time of the start of camp
Must complete mandatory 24hrs of training prior to start of camp
Leadership ability and teamwork oriented
Must be able to follow and implement the YMCA core values (Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility)
Additional
Duties - Assisting the Camp Directors and Head Counselors in overall program development
Support camp staff in the planning, supervision, and leading of activities
Maintain positive relationships with campers, parents, and other staff members
Setting a good example as role models to campers and staff
Assisting campers in activities
Interpret and supervise safety and health regulations
Submit reports to Camp Directors as required
Encourage respect for personal property and camp equipment
Take attendance of campers
Report, assist, and record accidents and illnesses of campers and other staff
